I have been saying this for a while. I think its an over rated gun. Its what the M700 used to be. Guys buy them, if they shoot, great, they still replace the stock. If it doesn’t shoot you get a stock and a new barrel. Back when they were $500 guns new, its no big deal. But Tikka prices have gone up and they aren’t that great of a deal. Yeah yeah, I am going to hear about how the actions don’t need any work etc.
None of them "need" any work, it's a "want" thing by some people.

LOL...been saying these are junk......but RS loves them. I think most just don't publicize their problems as they are too embarrassed or don't want shit from the RS gang ganging up on them....LOL. Until you buy one, then spend a load of money making them into something that works...you might as well just have bought a good rifle to begin with. Good luck with your Tikka.
So in your opinion, what is better than a tikka for similar money?

If you want a nice accurate, fairly light, stainless rifle with good aftermarket support there isn’t much.

I have a Winchester m70 extreme weather which I guess you could say is “nicer” but not more accurate than my tikkas and last I checked, prices were as high as 1700.00 for one, you can get 2 tikkas for that. New kimbers are 2k….is there something out there we are overlooking?

What is your personal preference for hunting rifles at the moment? Serious question.

I have hunting rifles up to $6000 and lots of them. Same with custom handguns, up to $4500 and lots of them. I can afford any rifle or scope I want...but you will never see a Tikka in my hand. Cheap garbage. I would rather shoot a new Ruger American to be honest, but I don't stoop that low either. Sorry guys, but I like nice firearms. My last 5 favorites are 2 CA Ridgeline FFT Ti in 308 and 7prc and 3 Mark Bansner custom rifles in 35 Whelen, 338-06(hand made finely checkered AA wood) and 300wsm. Not many make a better rifle than Mark does. Like I said, I like nice and I like accurate. You don't get both, maybe neither with a cheesy Tikka.

Tikka's are cheap for a reason. As in everything in life...you get exactly what you pay for. You got a $700 Tikka...lol.

To the OP:

I bought a broken tikka off my buddy. He ran it over with his truck and snapped the bolt body. Firing pin was also bent. I got a new bolt body, bent the firing pin back in place, and it shoots and functions well so far.

Not sure how you bent it but it must have taken some serious force.

And as far as all the Tupperware BS. After
19 years of dragging my super black eagle with synthetic through hell. I've learned to appreciate something that can take a beating and still show up.

Some serious arrogance and ignorance aplenty here. Sad. I've had very expensive rifles and handguns. It's how I learned the difference between want and need. Over decades of hard field use, they are all gone now. Replaced by a few good rifles that work all day, every day. 3 Tikka's in my safe. All 3 will shoot .5 MOA at sane hunting distances and 2 a lot further. Good actions, excellent triggers. I don't care anymore about aesthetics. Performance is demanded and that's what these 3 Tikka's do. Perform. On time, dependably. Glad you like what you own. First beer is on me. No need to run down what I own...or anyone else for that matter. And do all of us a favor...find some humility.

Thats some funny shit. There are no 10 shot .5 moa stock tikkas out there and almost as many .5 moa shooters.

OP posted a very detailed problem with gun. Follows up with some really nice pics. Really well thought out and worded post. What happens next?

@pacoalcracker jumps in with Tikkas are pieces of shit and Form's cult followers are special. Doubles down with all of his cool rifles.

Seriously Pacoal, tell us what Form and his disciples did to hurt you? We get it, you don't like Form. But it seems he lives rent free in your head. I doubt he gives you any thought whatsoever.

And you don't like Tikka. Cool, no one forcing you to use one. But don't make fun of us dudes that are slumming it with Tikkas instead of high end customs.

Drop tests are stupid, we all know it. You can obviously afford any scope you want, probably several to go with your rifles. You should just go with a top shelf Vortex or Leupold because they hold zero and track well, not to mention a world class warranty.

Actually, most of Rokslide sucks, maybe another forum would be to your liking. Yup, that is the ticket right there.

@pacoalcracker I have called you out and expect harsh retaliation. Seriously, go after my mom, dick size, etc. Go crazy. And then we can just ignore each other. Literally an ignore button.

Or, in the spirit of Christmas we hug it out and go kill shit... your call

When you’ve got lots of $6000 hunting rifles chambered in big manly cartridges it might sting to hear people advising that a much cheaper and more enjoyable to shoot option gets the job done just as well.

I’m sorry to keep the thread on track with all this brand hate and holiday hate.

I was just wondering if you checked the head space on the replacement bolt body or was it just plug and play?

You straightened a firing pin. Did you just do that by eye and did you remove the spring to do that?

I’m sorry this generated so much turmoil. I have guns cheaper than a Tikka that have killed elk just fine. Probably the most killing gun in history would be considered a cheap POS here, AK47. Probably the cheapest feeling firearm I ever used was a M203, but I’m not going to bash it. Carry on.

I straightened it by hand until it seemed straight and didn’t catch on the bolt body when sliding back and forth. I did verify headspace. I’m only 500 or so rounds in on the straightened firing pin..it could snap tomorrow but felt like it was worth a try

Okay thanks

I do have a new firing pin assembly I ordered yesterday. Until it arrives I’m Just mulling over the option of just using my 22-250 bolt in the 6.5 rifle or moving its firing pin assembly into the 6.5 bolt since I don’t have headspace gauges for the 6.5. Not sure it matters since it’s a factory installed barrel, but I have never heard of mixing bolts being a good idea.

I have swapped a factory barrel from one Tikka action to another without head space issues. I can switch my two 308 faced bolts out with no appreciable difference in headspace (bolt close stops at the same place when using the no-go gauge).

Headspace will likely be fine. Personally I would by a gauge and check it though.

Usually tikkas are close enough in tolerance that you can get away with it. I’ve got 4 tikkas in service currently…a few others that different family members are using and I built. Maybe 2-3 of them are the original bolts?

To be safe check headspace…but seriously doubt it will be an issue. What’s the chamber in now maybe I’ve got a headspace gauge I can loan you.
