Broadheads

With only six days to spare, I finally got my broadheads hitting with my fieldpoints! The birth of my daughter on the 23rd of September and other factors kept me from getting it perfect earlier, but it's finally there and I'm feeling more confident than ever with my longbow.

I used the bareshaft planning method to get it right and had to cut 1/4" at a time off the arrows, ended up having to go back to bow shop twice to get it perfect, but now that it is, it was well worth the effort.

What methods do most of y'all use to get the flight perfect?

My method involved keeping the weight of the filed points and the broadheads the same at 250 grs. Second, I recently switched to Eclipse 125 gr as they have a thicker tip section, and a fairly narrow diameter. They fly/flew exactly like my field tips once the 125 gr adapters were installed. That said, I spent all Spring and Summer shooting the same set of shafts before the broadheads were brought into the picture. This way I knew where the shafts should go once the broadheads were installed.

in case you are wondering here's my set-up:

Carbon Express Heritage 250's cut to 29.75 in.
50 gr brass insert
125 gr Eclipse broadhead with a 125 gr steel adapter
3 - 5 in parabolic feathers
CE nock
Total arrow weight 665 gr.
FOC 25%
My bows are all 55@29

The high FOC seems to have a "straightening effect" on arrow flight. Cross winds seem to have less effect when you switch over to broadheads. Once the shafts were tuned to the 300 gr up front, the broadheads flew perfectly within minutes if that.

I use four 4" vanes on 29" Easton Axis arrows. I shoot 100gr Muzzy MX-4's. Nary an issue.
