Brass cleaning !

Has anyone ever tried bar keepers friend to clean brass? Is it safe for the brass? I cleaned one to try today and it cleaned effortlessly with just a microfibre cloth.

I was thinking of adding a bit to the water solution in the rotary tumbler when it arrives.

Curious how this plays out been looking at a sealed tumbler for a while. Still using the generic vibratory with crushed walnut.

Seems like stainless steel pins as media are the best now. I'm still using corncob but want to switch.

A friend told me about Southern Shine Media as an alternative to the typical stainless steel pins. He said they clean it even more thoroughly.

Stainless pins, a pinch of lemi-shine and a squirt of dawn in a tumbler. Google for pics of results. Its as easy as it gets and the results are fantastic.

Not sure if barkeepers friend contains any ammonia. Don't use anything that has ammonia in it. Ammonia will weaken the brass.

I went through the southern shine media and use the same recipe mentioned above. Harbor freight dual tumbler with 20% off coupon seemed like best way to get started and so far so good.

I have used all sorts of cleaners in addition to my media for 20 plus years. Speeds up the process a bit. Sometimes leaves a coating on the outside that needs a good wipe down.

Never had a problem.
