Brass cleaning process.. which is best

The only problem with SS pin tumbling is when you tumble too long. Tumbling brass for an hour or more will remove the beneficial carbon from inside of the necks. It can also ding up the case mouths. When I use the pin tumbler, I don't tumble for more than 20-30 minutes. I pin tumble all of the cases that come out of the AR, especially the 458SOCOM, which are filthy.

If you want super shiny cases by SS pin tumbling (longer), you should chamfer & debur the case mouths before reloading.

I just wipe cases off with a rag, check for length if needs to be trimmed, trim if needed, anneal, lube, size, then wipe off lube with rag and clean primer pockets, ready to load.

How does tumbling for 20-30 minutes shine up the case but not remove the beneficial carbon from inside the neck? And from a consistency standpoint, what are the pros and cons of them being clean like new brass?
