Braggin Board for Fishing!

I don’t think that it necessarily upsets people, it just makes it look phony.
I disagree, I don’t think it looks phony…I appreciate looking at pictures that I feel do the fish justice, but maybe it comes from being a tournament bass guy…the actual weight of the fish on the scale is all that matters to me, as long as nobody is putting weights in fish they can long arm all they want…I just like looking at pictures of big fish

My photos are mostly for me when I’m sizing up a future animal or sitting in an airport next to a Tim Walz voter and questioning my life decisions. I think there is a big difference between long-arming to the point of absurdity and long-arming in an attempt to capture your (subjective?) memory of the fish or critter. If you are a guide you should have caught enough fish to know better. Seeing a guide post absurd photos would be a major turn off for me.

P.S.: Free pass if you are long-arming to make your belly look smaller.

I also think holding the fish out at the camera makes you look like a goof. It doesn’t fool anyone or make the fish look any bigger than it is. The fish should be held in a manner that doesn’t hurt it (if it’s being released) and ideally shows it clearly with good colour/ lighting and maybe some scenery or the angler in there with it.

I’m aware there is such a thing as “large for species” but big fish can’t be lifted out of the water. Anyone holding a fish up could think, man this is a big “crappie, walleye, pike, trout, bass, salmon, etc. but needs to remember some of us estimate our fish in the many hundreds of pounds, we position them beside the boat and snap a pic.

Your 25” bass is smaller than most of my bait.

Well my 250” elk is way bigger than that guy’s state record whitetail buck!

Lol I’m just ribbing you. But seriously it’s a pretty silly thing to compare across species….

As silly as some of you might think it is, context and specificity actually do matter. The word ‘fish’ covers every aquatic, finned, gill-breathing vertebrate out there from minnows to 1,500 pound marlin.

Notice how you instinctively said ‘elk’ and ‘whitetail buck’ instead of just lumping them under ‘big animal’? That specificity changes the whole frame of reference.

That’s what I said in my second paragraph. Big for species is still impressive but call it exactly what it is. A 25” bass is a big bass. A 2lb perch would be huge perch… neither is a ‘big’ fish in the absolute sense.

If you and the couple boys who liked your post enjoy long arming smaller fish for the camera, that’s fine with me. I think it looks dumb but I’ll still check the pics out.
I like catching fish, of all types and sizes. A fish is a fish. I prefer seeing them held naturally so the colors, proportions, and the moment show through honestly. Now, if I’m discussing them, It’ll be nuanced.

Went out today for my buddy's birthday. Was expecting to dredge up some whities off the bottom and maybe a dink cutty or two. Was not expecting to smash my PB cutty. Still buzzing from this one!

We’ve barely made it above zero for over a month now (currently we’re sitting at -18°F), and I don’t enjoy ice fishing, so I’m very envious of you. Nice CT, keep it coming!
