Ya they just take a loss so that others don’t get the job to make a buck.Depending on the age of the truck, Safelite might be cheapest. Both local places (Colorado) I quoted were higher for my 2010...no sensors/calibration/tech, just old glass out and new glass in. Safelite started with the cheapest quote then sent me a $50 discount a day or two after I created the quote without booking an appointment. Worth a look at least.
Brilliant business model.Ya they just take a loss so that others don’t get the job to make a buck.

Oh I know, I’m in the business. Zero if not negative net profit on that job.I think there's more to it than that...they obviously aren't taking a loss every time. My little sister needed a new windshield on her CRV in Georgia and the local guy was cheaper than Safelite by quite a bit. Safelite was cheaper than local for my F150 windshield in Colorado, but I needed a windshield and sunroof at the same time and Safelite doesn't do sunroofs so they didn't get my business.
It also depends on the vehicle and what kind of sensors need to be calibrated and such, whether or not they offer OEM glass, aftermarket, or give you the option, etc. My F150 would have been like $175 from Safelite, my wife's CX-5 is over $800 from them. I have to assume someone could beat that but I haven't taken the time to shop around. If they're all higher than $500 then I'll just pay my deductible and let insurance cover the rest and whoever can fit in my schedule best will get the job.
