This company is brutal.
Avoid them . I bought a spot. The messages would show they sent. But no one would receive them.
I asked for a refund instantly.
This is their response.

That being said, if anyone has a spot messenger and wants a free year subscription I'll tender mine over to your unit.
They can screw themselves... I got a inreach

I know it is a typo but your subscription end date is before you start date.

On a serious note, call them. Most people are willing to work with you better over a phone than in an email. If its the same old tune, remind them that you recognize that you have a years subscription that you are bound to but you paid for a year of services and those services included sending texts that arent being sent.

Have you tried multiple phones? It could be someones phone not the device.

I tried spot last year and was able to cancel. Glad I did. Inreach mini came out this year and is what I have.

I had this exact situation occur over a weekend solo hunt once and my family had started contacting the sheriff's department. Luckily they were waiting until I was supposed to be done hunting to make any real big moves. But when I hit cell service, i had a text message from the sheriffs saying to contact them asap. That surely got my attention. I moved to the inreach and haven't looked back.

Definitely call and don't stop calling until they give you a refund. I recently had to do this for a hotel reservation that I had through Expedia which the hotel would not honor. It took three weeks and numerous calls but they finally made it right. Bug them like crazy then switch to an inreach

Have fun calling SPOT it's like talking to DISH or Sirius XM or the cable company or any other low life bottom feeding company. Good luck.

if you paid thru credit card, PayPal or similar cancel payment, & file for re-embursement....some cards offer 30-60 days refund past manufactures

For what it's worth, my InReach was doing something similar last Sept. too. I tried texting a number of people, and strangely, only one person was receiving messages even though my inReach was showing everyone had received them.

I'm in my final year of using SPOT, the inreach mini is just too tempting, but I've had pretty reliable service with them. If you don't confirm changes in your account settings when you try to add numbers then it will not add those phone numbers. It's an easy mistake to make and you don't really know it didn't change until you either double check or find out later, which was the case with me once. I'd check that out before you spend an hour on hold waiting to talk to someone in Louisiana.

I bought the spot messenger this year, I have used their beacons pretty extensively in the past. I have noticed that it will sometimes show messages sent when they were not received, but it largely depended on where they were sent from. I have had similar experience with Sat phones. I looked at the in reach but didn't like the tie in to the GPS as it would not work with OnX. Spot service contract was a bit cheaper but I would really like to see a comparison of the messaging capability of of both. I would hate to bail on the spot, buy an inreach mini and have the same issue.

Same thing here, and as to be expected at the worst time. It all worked out but needless to say i dont feel as
"In Reach" as i used to. (Yes i made an InReach funny).

Me as well. I didn't find the InReach to be very reliable. Had a lot of problems with messages taking hours to go out and receive.

Inreach most definitely needs a clear view of sky. Won't work in the truck, but will work on the dashboard. Not sure there is really any difference between them other than interfaces and compatibility.

I’ve run Spot 5 years for sure, maybe several more years than that. Never dealt with customer service. I always make sure to sync my spot account and my spot. Then I test the groups I set up.
I believe that my messages go to thier server that then sends them out per my account settings, so I confirm.

Never had a problem with my inReach but SPOT and inReach both run through the same service provider.

I think they are both going to be almost identical in actual performance. The contracts, pricing and apps/web will be the difference.

I havent really looked at them since I bought mine a couple years ago but the contract and price per month were the same when I bought my inReach.
