Bowtech performance vs comfort for elk

I just bought a Bowtech Carbon Icon and I shot it in both the performance and comfort settings. At a 60# 29” draw do you think the negative FPS would matter much on elk if I use the comfort setting? Planning on shooting out to 60 yards tops.

Have not shot an elk to know but no. Plenty kill elk with far less poundage.

Yep maybe 10 FPS less. That’s how I shoot. I really like the comfort setting because it’s so easy to draw slowly, quietly, and hold if needed. Two years ago I drew on a bull, and he stopped and looked at me from 18 yds - but didn’t have a shot. I’m certain is was 5 minutes I held at full draw. Could not have done that on speed setting.

Doubt you will have an issue. I shot an elk with my Carbon Icon last year and didn't have an issue with penetration, 70# at 28.5". Now I'm gonna have to look and see if it's set on performance or comfort.

I am going to be shooting a 50# longbow this year and have 100% confidence it will kill the crap out of everything I will have the opportunity to shoot at...elk deer and hogs. I think your compound will do just fine. Aim small and let their air out.

I think that more comfort for a potentially long hold at full draw would be more important than 8-10 fps. I’ve only shot mine on performance a couple times.

Sounds good, I really prefer the comfort setting so I’m happy to hear these answers. I’ve never shot an elk, only whitetails so good to know. Thanks!

I shot a Carbon Icon for a year on "comfort" then another year on "performance". To be honest, I really didn't notice much difference at all. Smooth, easy bow either way.

I don’t have a bowtech. Do the different settings change the draw cycle, let off, or both?

Mine is a reign. The draw on mine is a little harsher on performance and the valley a lot smaller. I don’t think it affects the letoff amount.

I just got a RealmSR6 and checked up on this since I am in Colorado. I got a quick reply from Amanda telling me that the let off is 80% in either mode. There isn't much difference between the two, just a gentler downhill to full draw, and I suspect it would take a very in tune archer to win a guessing game of a dozen bows split between the two settings. I don't know if any of that holds true for other models. Here is her email if anyone wants a quick response [email protected]

I have not shot an SR6, but the letoff on the Realm X also is higher on comfort, roughly 85% for comfort and 80% for performance as measured by my LCA scale. Not the most precise instrument of course, but it gets you in the ballpark.

I will see if I can find a scale that will calculate those numbers and test mine. I would be very interested in hearing what you find if you are able to do that same.

I shot my icon on comfort for about 1.5 years then switched to performance. yes there is a bit of a difference in draw cycle and speed but still very nice to draw on performance in my opinion. I found that I like the shorter valley and perceived higher holding weight of the performance setting so I left it there. It slings my 500 grain arrows around 265 at 70/28
