My goal is to get a slider in or around 10oz.
Currently the 2 front runners are the Fast Eddie 2 pin and Ascent Verdict single pin with 4" dovetail.
Pros for the Black Gold
Love the natural brightness of the Black Gold pin,
the ability to adjust sight radius with the dovetail,
overall weight,
sight tape visibility,
enclosed gearing - less chance of debris getting in the guts,
Cons - not as much micro tuning the axis's vs Spot Hogg,
no double pin option,
yardage dial/wheel sticks out,
no MRT,
adding a rheostat light will be more visible while in my ground blind as my understanding it illuminates the fiber housing far more than the SH (however this may be a non issue if pin really are as bright as they seem - a light won't be necessary for dusk and dawn),
finding a .10 pin version in Canada proving difficult however .19 is no problem,
Pros for Spot Hogg Fast Eddie
Built like a tank,
more micro adjustability on the axis's when mounting compared to BG Verdict,
MRT sight ring looks to be the bees knees for peep capture,
can find double pin .10 version in Canada,
yardage dial/wheel sits nice and compact to the unit,
double pin with double yardage pointer,
less obvious to game when using a rheostat light at dawn and dusk compared to BG Verdict,
Cons - pins not as bright (may need to add rheostat light for dawn and dusk),
no dovetail so only 1 fixed mounting position (going up to the XL increases weight by 4 ounces if my math is correct),
exposed internals - possibility of debris getting into gearing,
yardage tape visibility/location,
heavier than Black Gold Ascent Verdict by a tad,
can be noisy,
Unfortunately there isn't a store within several hours drive that carries both of these sights that I can go to to test out on my bow prior to purchase.
Covid doesn't help things either - stores are delivery or curbside pickup only so even if they had both, I couldn't actually test in person prior to purchase anyhow.
I can find both sights at similar price points so really it comes down to what pros outweigh the cons and will serve me best.
I'm newer to archery, but as with most things I'm a strong believer in buying once, crying once.
The sight will be going on my 70lbs Hoyt.
My main uses:
Turkey, Deer and Moose (often in a ground blind.)
Able to practice out to 100 yards
My local range has 3D course.
Any and all input is appreciated!
Not to say I won't look at other companies but I should mention that I have researched many of the single pin offerings out there and have distilled them down to the 2 sights in question.
Thanks for your time,
