Bow Hunting 3rd Rifle

Does anyone here bow hunt during the Colorado rifle seasons?
I've never archery hunted 3rd season. I have archery hunted other places during the same time frame.

It's hard. It really seems like if the buck is solo they are moving a lot searching and hard to catch up to. If they aren't moving a lot they are with lots of other deer and there are tons of eyes .

I actually think it would be easier second season when they aren't chasing as hard.

It all depends on the unit you’re in. Zero-low point units you’re gonna get frustrated. You’re gonna work pretty hard to find a shooter buck let alone get within archery range. Top tier units I have been within easy archery range of some quality bucks during 3rd-4th from the front seat of my truck.

Is your heart set on Colorado because there are other states that will offer the same opportunities and time frame with a bow with less pressure from hunters mainly rifle elk hunters. I suggest looking outside of Colorado.

nver heard of anyone doing it. It'd take a special breed to endure that, but the fact that you're even considering it means it might be a good fit for you.

I just can't imagine trying it if there were other opps available

But it would be an accomplishment if you took a mature buck. For sure.

(and @Poser I spit my milk...)

Eh, I've killed deer in low point units with a rifle. I'd really like to try and use archery equipment. I just can't get anyone who wants to go
If you want to hunt November rutting bucks. Utah has some of those archery only hunts.

Yeah seems like an exercise in futility, I’m sure someone has done it and scored, but man. If you get lucky enough to find a nice buck he will either be moving or have a small army of does with him, plus crusty snow, or dry cold… it would be a challenge to say the least… not to mention having someone else be able to shoot that buck out from under you while you try to stalk…
