Bourbon

Opened my first ER12 last night. Smooth sweet butter scotch note through the middle and a nice clean finish. It’s better than the ER10 but not $100 better for the going secondary price.

Good to know.. picked one up @150 and been debating on opening, stocking, or gifting..

Yea it was all that single barrel pot still stuff. Some bourbon some rye. I would like to try it but commiting to a 400-600 bottle is tough for something I'm not familar with. Ive had plenty of opputunities at the 8 year black bottle purple top. maybe next time I try one. The only willett rye I had was a 4 year old and tastes like burning tires. It was awful.
You must have gotten a shit bottle..I went through a spell where I was liking ryes (no longer) but I remember the willett being on top of my list for the rye’s and everyone that tried it loved it was extremely hard to find here at the time… I’ve since shifted away and have been really liking J bowman single barrel copper distilled and taylor SB.. seen a purple top willet straight bourbon the other day and bought simply because it was the first family estate bourbon I’ve seen for under $100 and remembered the 4 year rye being good.. I’ll post back later this weekend on the pour

Thats kinda the problem though. If I got a shit bottle that means that willett was ok with putting a shit bottle / single barrel out there. I have seen enough people say that they loved it to think that mostly its good. But my faith as a counsumer to pay 2-3x the premium price for a distillery that randomly puts out shit bottles is zero.

I feel the same about bookers.. think they allow shit and a couple dicks to make it out in bottles. Opened one of their quarterly batches and tried an infinite.. I’ll never buy another bottle of any of their shit

I’m familiar w the single barrel, have yet to try the BP. Wondering if it’s worth me opening or swapping for something else.

I’ve got the 2025 release of the EHTBP. It’s a great pour.

The first infinite I though was shit.

As a general rule I like all the little books I have had. I dont buy regular bookers anymore I just buy knob creek single barrels. I like them better at half the cost.

No sir not yet. Between turks and caicos 2 weeks ago (plenty of rum punch) and a colonoscopy last week (no drinking) I havent been drinking my own juice too much. I revisited the soft red wheat last night and it had a note I couldnt place that I didnt care for. Not sure if its me or it. I will get to the BH mid to late April I suspect. Im excited for it and the OF 1924 so they are both coming up soon.

Somebody gave me one of those and an Elmer Lee, I don’t even drink anymore lol.

Yes sir.

The John J bowman single barrel is delicious. My bottle tasted like stewed apples and caramel, and it is sadly gone. I have a second bottle that hasn’t gotten opened yet. I’m still on the hunt for an A Smith Bowman cask strength. They both are buys when avaliable.

Disclaimer. All of my recommendations are at MSRP. I don’t pay more than that for whiskey and I never buy off the secondary as to not encourage bottle flippers.

I’m terrible about buying at secondary.. however I am very close to the VA stateline and as far as drinkers, I think the bowman single barrel is at the top of the Line. That said the Virginia ABC store I frequent has them regularly at 59.99 before tax.. think it comes just at $63
I’d happily continue to pay that vs the $67 for stagg 25b or the $79 for blantons.
If you ever find yourself out of the bowman and need one, let me know.
