Bourbon

I'm guessing there's no fear of open bottles aging poorly? I'm new to this.

some.
I normally drink them all the way once they get to half.
My shelves dont get direct sunlight only ambient. My lights are musuem quality as to not aid in any degrading.
basements dont exist here which is where I would keep the collection if I had one. If a bottle isnt still factory sealed I do sometimes random check that corks are sealing.

I wish they would have done a sunlit room but without sunlight hitting the bottle.

Nice tequila selection, love the tears. Which Ocho is that on the top shelf?

Nice eye.
There is actually 4 ochos up there. its one of my favorite brands.
Widow jane reposado - cream label far left
widow jane anjeo - black label
anjeo single barrel cask strength - new bottle cream and red label in the back you cant really see
anjeo old fitzgerald cask - new bottle full red label

There is one other ocho bottle on the middle shelf which is a blanco puntas overproof

If you like ocho I would highly reccomend rotating in some G4. Is as solid. Especially the madera

Watched an interesting video on u tube expounding on the level of deception for several popular brands.
I'd go broke daily drinking my favorites but they mentioned three of my regular stock as good quality and straight up as advertised.
My thought was why the deception? Why were they not punished legally like every other business?

Side topic for tequila guys : this Revolucion reposado is one of the best I have had. Family friend is Mexican and gave me a pour a few months ago and I raved about it so much , guess what I got for Christmas?! A real treat.

Here's the link. I knew MGP was distilling for several different brands, but still.... ....
Welcome to the world of whisky, and in this thread in particular bourbon. If you dig into bourbon history, there's an awful lot of BS including many tall tales, intentionally misleading information, alternate history, made up marketing, or if you prefer "alternate facts".

The video mentioned is not great, with some truth, a lot of half truth and even more partial information that makes people think a certain thing without references and accuracy. It is AI generated and in my opinion deceptive and intentionally designed to trigger outrage and is misleading without further details and research.

A lot of what it refers to is the industry practice of NDP, or non-distiller producer. Here's a good primer on what that means: Non-Distiller Producer

There are some Very Good or Great NDP products. Here's another link to some of those: NDP winners

There's so much more to this conversation, and I'd prefer to sit down with you all around a campfire with a glass in hand to discuss.

I haven’t watched the video yet, but I understand the complaint.

MGP is a YUGE distiller that until semi recently nobody knew existed. But they make some fantasic juice. MGP 95/5 rye that is 10 year or older is frankly the finest high rye juice on the market. Period. Their bourbon is in many bottles people seem to flock over like the brand Penelope.

I try to talk about this when I post pictures of bottles that I have split and drank recently. There is NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and NDPs’ (non-distilling producer)

But then you also have distillers bottling stuff they didn’t produce. A prime example is orphan barrel which is owned by Diego, the same company that owns heaven hill. Orphan barrel is an NDP that bottles juice distilled by others but is a brand owned by a company that owns a distillery.

Another different example is redwood empire. They are a distiller that has bought stock and sold it under their label that they didn’t distill or age while they sell their own juice that they did age at the same time. Buying stock and selling it as an NDP almost always comes with an NDA.

But turning your nose up at NDPs, NDAs and the like can cause you to miss some fantastic offerings. Such as Buff Turkey. Distilled at buffalo trace for wild turkey. With wild turkey’s mash bill. With buffalo trace yeast. Aged at Buffalo Trace. Sold by all NDPs. The Russells that own wild turkey decided it was delicious but too far off brand to be able to sell as turkey.

Last bottle drop was on page 38 for reference

This bottle drop was mid December.

Penelope - NDP (non-distilling producer) Unknown source of juice. 17 year light whiskey isnt that rare. This stuff was fantastic. If you dont know the difference between light whiskey and bourbon there is alot. It was worth the buy.

Angels envy 2023 cask strength - They distill and age their own juice. It was very good. Priced a bit too high for non age stated but worth the buy once. I really like angels envy so I buy them every year.

Woodford reserve batch proof 124.7 - They distill and age their own juice. I love the woodford profile. This is the second bottle of that batch. I buy them yearly and love them.

Nashville barrel company - NPD from MGP. I think they secondary finsh their own barrels. The seelbachs stuff as a general whole is good. This cigar blend was no exception. It drank easy. Learing how to read the label is important. It says on this one its from Indiana. Thats a pretty good hint its probably MGP.

Augusta Buckners - A distiller that is also a NDP bottler. This is a good example of stuff thats fuzzy. Augusta Distillery isn't the same as Barton (1792 Distillery), but they are closely linked because Augusta sources much of its highly-acclaimed, older bourbon (like Buckner's 10 & 13 Year) from the Barton Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, operating as an independent bottler/NDP (Non-Distiller Producer) with its own facility in Augusta, KY, for bottling and future distilling. Augusta focuses on single barrel, cask strength, aged Kentucky bourbon, often using Barton's distillate with their own brand. This bottle I bought because I hoped it was buff turkey. It tasted a bit off for me. I think it was barton. Augusta bought and bottled some buff turkey but didnt change the labels so you wre pretty much left buying them on the proof. Barton cask strength is usually in the 130's and Buff turkey is teens to low 120's.

Jimmy red - they distill and age their own juice. I love jimmy red and keep multiple bottles in rotation. I didnt love the wheated but wheated bourbons arent really my thing. It was ok. I wouldnt buy the wheated again.

Corn whiskey black bottle - Corn whiskey that was sherry finished from spain. I hate sherry finishes. I didnt know it when I bought this bottle and it has sat on my shelves for years. I opened it and didnt like it so sent it for free to my friend.

Blue spot irish whiskey - they distill and age their own juice. They are owned by midleton. Midleton owns the spots, midleton, jameson and redbreast. It was good. It was a bit disjointed and not very cohesive between the nose, palate and finish. I liked the red spot better.

Cream of kentucky - I dont know too much about this brand. They say JW Rutledge Distillery is who made it and then it was bottled by someone else under the cream of kentucky brand. It was ok. The price was ok. It was nothing to get excited about. Just solid bourbon.

Barrell new year 2026 - Barrell is a NDP that is one of the best blenders in the business. 2025 included 18 bourbons spanning eight states, while this year’s release includes 17 bourbons from seven states. Blending 17 parts and being able to finish with a delcious cohesive bourbon is an art. I have enjoyed the barrell new years and have bought them since 2022 and will contine to buy yearly and drink on new years.

Barrell seagrass grey label - Barrell is a NDP that is one of the best blenders in the business. Seagrass is a testament to when a master blender can accomplish. I love seasgrass and have 3 other bottles in stock currently. This one was amazing.

Thanks - how's the widow Jane black label? That's the one in front next to Cierto?

Started my tequila journey with Compoveda. I think it's AF but not 100% certain. Their XA finished in wine barrels is a great after dinner relaxer. Wife loves their Blanco mixed with Fresca and a lime, it's our summer time float in the pool drink.

Really enjoying Ocho. Costco seems to carry it every once in a while, the Plata and Repo. I've got the Old Fitz. tasty. Have a couple bottles of different single barrel Anejo's that I haven't cracked yet, plus a single barrel Repo. If I get an urge I'll snap a pic of my bottles, won't be anywhere close to yours!

I enjoy El Tequileno also, also a few others I'm exploring.

Started my G4 journey with some Blanco, enjoying it very much so will need to find some Madera. Thanks for the tip!
