Looks great. One piece of advise: the extractor on that rifle is riveted and they are nearly impossible to replace. They have been known to fail. I would consider a mini-16 extractor if it’s going to a gunsmith and you’re really going to use it a lot. If you’re going for full original then leave it alone though.

Very nice looking old rifle. I’ve fired one in a 264 Win Mag my cousin had. It’s a real peach.

Gbflyer, I’ve read about the extractor being a problem with this model. If you look at the new picture of the muzzle that shows no damage as the first photo did, you can see the very sharp rifling. I don’t think this rifle was shot much at all, so I’m thinking the extractor is still in good shape.

Got a 3-9x40 scope for her, and leupold dovetail 2 piece base and rings shipped from Midway today. Ordered the medium height rings, hoping the scope clears the rear sight.

Well I finally got the bases and rings in, and a new scope for her. Got it all set to go and will shoot her tomorrow. The only thing i do not like about it is, I had to go with high rings to clear the rear sight. Would have preferred low, but medium wouldn't even work. It looked like too much trouble to get that rear sight off. Anyone ever remove the rear sight on a model 721?unnamed-14.jpg

They come out fairly easy. Use a brass drift and drive it out to the right or same side as bolt handle.

With the scope being up that high on a stock designed for iron sight height you won't get a cheek weld, maybe a chin weld. I believe you are wise to keep going with your thinking of removing the rear sight and dropping the scope as low as possible.

Good looking vintage harvester you got there.

Is that a Trijicon Accupoint? Nice looking scope. I’d be interested in reading what you think about it, specifically eye relief. I have one in 1-4 but heavy 30mm tube. Awesome scope.

Looks good! I recently restored this 722 for my wife. It was her grandmas and her dad passed it on to us when she showed interest in hunting with me. It’s a 722 in .300 savage. It spent many years in a swamp cooled house so the blueing was toast. I ended up doing a sanded in linseed oil finish on the stock, fitting a decelerator pad, and spraying some black cerakote on it. It shoots really well with the Williams peep.

Great looking heirloom Jack, great job on that stock. I toyed with the idea of leaving mine scope less because of the low profile stock. Yours looks real nice with that peep. Thanks for posting.

Eye relief was generous. Probably 3.5” at 3 power and a good 3” at 9 power. I’m happy with it, but I’ll be removing the rear sight to go with low rings.
