I prefer a 6" boot with no insulation to keep the weight down. I have used the UA Speedfreaks the past two seasons and I really like this boot. I've yet to develop any blisters with these boots and I have really soft feet. They aren't an overly stiff boot but provide me with just the right amount of ankle support.

In the past I have used trail hiking shoes and they always did well for me too. I just prefer a little taller boot for ankle support in the backcountry.
