Boot / Crampon Compatibility

I've never used crampons and have a question: Will crampons work with boots that are not specifically designed for their use?

But generally most strap on crampons are fine for non crampon specific boots.

If you buy the right crampons, yes. You'll want a strap on crampon.. stay away from auto or semi auto crampons for boots without the shelf at the heel and toe
