Book about Elk?

Hey guys,

I want to get a book for a friend who will start elk hunting with my party this year. He loves to read so I thought I would get him a book to read while he's in his tent on our steelhead trips this winter and summer.

I'd like something about elk habits, habitat, feeding behavior, etc.

If possible I'd like it geared more towards later in the year, rifle hunting, instead of archery.

I've researched a bit and guys talk about Eastman's, Long, etc.

Opinions?

Probably not quite what you're looking for. But a large, heavy book for anybody who really wants to nerd out on elk:

North American Elk - Ecology and Management

I bought my copy a couple years ago from the publisher Wildlife Management Institute. Looks like I did just in time for them to stop printing. Google or check eBay for copies, I guess.

This is a little lighter reading than North American Elk, Ecology and Management. A good starting point.

No so much geared towards the ecology of elk but towards gear and strategies for the beginning DIY elk hunter.
