Boise woman sues for getting lyme from mice at school?

I’m somewhat skeptical because of the location, alleged source of infection, and because Lyme has become something of a catch-all diagnosis for chronic health issues by some fringes of healthcare.

But maybe she got a legit diagnosis from an actual, reputable doctor, idk.

Well Lyme is a positive or negative test so there isnt really a grey area. Ive tested positive and been treated for it 11 times.

"Experts" saying that she got Lyme from mice in her clasroom sets my BS meters off big time. Lyme isn't common at all in the area.

I come from the birthplace and epicenter of Lymes Disease in the Hudson Valley and I have never heard of mice carrying ticks and bringing them into your house. I guess it's possible, but I bet it was just an easy way to explain the infection and they went with it.

Sounds like the school had a bad infestation of mice and she also go got Lyme disease. I don't see the correlation between the two and she will have a hard time proving her case when the tick that carries Lyme isn't known to live in Idaho. Most likely she got it while visiting another state.

Another thing I thought of is…if she did get Lyme from a local tick, how can she tell it was from a mouse and she didn’t get it from a dog or on a walk in the hills etc etc? Did she travel north where those ticks are more prevalent? And have any kids gotten it?

It’s a strange case.

How can you prove it came from mice? How does her insurance not cover Lyme? Sounds ridiculous. Most people just get a course of antibiotics for Lyme. I had it about 10 years ago and that's all they did for me.

I’d worry more about Pocahanta Virus… it’s fairly prevalent in Idaho & definitely mouse turd borne.

Mice do carry ticks & Lyme disease, but Idaho has some of the lowest rates.

I imagine mice would be pretty good at getting ticks off of themselves. Nasty little disease carriers though they may be, they're grooming habits are still pretty meticulous.

As an aside, my 10th grade Spanish teacher died of Lyme. I doubt she got it in the building though.
