You don’t know what “full” is yet… wait till you hit a population of 6 million and have even more tourists….

So is Idaho, but that doesn’t seem to affect them.

What I figured out is full to us is paradise to someone from Ca, Portland or Seattle.

For sure, everything is relative to what you are used to, and there are many less desirable places than the Rockies for lots of different reasons.

I grew up on the front range of CO in the 80s and 90s. I’m very aware how a state can be ruined.

It’s everywhere across Idaho. Prices are skyrocketing, people that have been here forever are getting horribly squeezed by prices and property taxes. I’d love to upgrade homes but can’t even come close to affording to

Im in the same boat in SLC. Would love some more space but can’t afford since covid.

What I don't understand is the average home in Boise is $500-600k while the average income is $80k, How are people doing it?

Because they’re work from home types who probably report an income in the state where the company actually is, are young trust founders that don’t actually work or sold out for big money in another state and aren’t working

Or they could just be so far in debt that they’ll die with a mortgage

As others keep saying, the state is going to crap in a hurry due to growth and just because you think the growth is “like minded” people it hasn’t been a good thing. It just seems to be a race to the bottom by appealing to the lowest common denominators of people. I’m almost excited the state seems to have finally screwed up its budgets enough that they might have to actually do something about it.

I actually know a decent number of hunters that have left in the last few years for the Midwest and southeast. The amount of good deer hunting they found, much much lower housing prices and the ability to hunt out of state for elk and still save money was the draw

Lots in my area are millionaires or close too. They are Retired and they are my age. Play every day
I work a good oil job half the year in Alaska now going on for 30 years and I can barely afford the treasure valley

I guess I picked the wrong business!

Wages in general in the blue collar sector haven’t kept up especially in Idaho. Unless you’re a lineman or electrical dude. Or a union pipe fitter.

Yep I know. I’m off weekdays fishing and hunting and people assume I don’t either. I exchanged half my life in Alaska for that.

Not to disrespect folks, but i get the feeling that there are a few work-from-home types here. Yes they have largely contributed to the decrease in life quality for those of us born here n the west. On the other hand, if i was from some big city and had the opportunity id likely take it.

I've been living in Boise for 20 years now, closing Wednesday on my third house. As some folks have mentioned here (I didn't read all the posts), it IS somewhat of a buyers market now, especially for existing. Lots of price drops over the last few months.

From my research and a feeling among some realtors I've talked with, there are a lot of buyers on the sidelines just waiting for rates to go down. And once that happens, things are going to get tougher. Yeah, part of me would have liked to wait for a rate drop, but I feel we bought at the right time.

Like many places, it's about location. If you don't have to commute into Boise daily, consider the western part of the Valley. Boise is a very desirable place to live for a variety of reasons and the home prices are naturally going to reflect that.

Idaho has a mandatory balanced budget in the state constitution. As such, we have no “debt” fwtw.
