My brother and I are both archery hunters for whitetails here in Iowa, but we jumped at the opportunity to rifle hunt for bulls during the early season in the Bob. Our trip is 9/14-9/22.
Good for you. It's a wonderful place. I've spent a lot of time in there. Make sure you get a little fishing in. Who are you hunting with?

We are going with Colter Heckman and Montana Safaris. I am planning on bringing a micro telescopic spinning outfit and some spinners for trout. :)

I am hunting with Montana Safaris this Sept. with Elk/deer combo tags. The plan is to pack in roughly 20 miles on horses to tent camp. From there we ride out every day to find the animals. I am also planning to get a bear tag as they typically see a good number of bears that time of year.

I am going to look into the wolf tags as well. That would be a pretty cool bonus.
You possibly could see everything in the Bob. We saw a little of everything. elk, deer, grizzly, wolf and Mt. Goats. The wolves were on my elk carcass but winded us before we were able to close the distance for a shot.

How did your hunts go?
Pros:
-The Bob is as wild and as spectacular as it gets in the lower 48
-The weather on our hunt (9/14-9/22) was mostly nice except for one day that was a soaking alternating rain, sleet, blizzard mix
-The area is very remote, and if you're looking for a place where you can unplug from your mobile phone this is it
-I was fortunate to connect on a once in a lifetime bull (avatar photo) with massive beams that scored 345

Cons:
-Animal concentrations in the area we hunted west of badger pass were very low (1 black bear, 1 grizzly bear, 12 mule deer, 2 elk, 0 wolves) during our trip. I was the only guy out of 8 hunters over 6 days of hunting to get an opportunity at a legal animal.

If you're looking for the classic Western big game pack-in trip, and the experience is more important to you than harvesting an animal, I don't think you could go to a more beautiful area.

If you're number one priority is to kill an animal, there are better places to go.

If you're not a fan of horses, pick a different/easier hunt. We rode 18 miles in on day 1 and 18 miles out the last day. We rode a few miles from base camp every morning and walked horses down the moutain at the end of the day. I personally loved it, but others were not a fan of getting swatted by branches in the dark and the incredibly steep and precarious trails.
