going to hike the china wall in mid august. were hoping to do a thru hike of it. has anyone done this and have reccomendations ? thanks

Love the Bob. One time we hiked in with the intentions of doing a 72 mile loop and the Chinese wall but ended up fishing the various forks of the Sun for five days instead. Good foot wear is important.

I did the China Wall loop from Benchmark Trail Head last summer with a Scout Troop. 7 days, around 10 miles a day. Once away from the trail head, saw few people, the trails were easy, we saw almost no game, walked thru miles and miles of burned forest in the Pretty Prairie area and above. The wall was spectacular, the rest was just trodding along trails in trees. Other than the distance, it was an easy trip, no gnarly up or downs. What do you want to know?

assuming there will be plenty of water ? just looking for any insight or tips. trying to plan a little

The fishing in that area, is only in the rivers, so to do the wall, you may be 3-4 days away from those as you go up to it and back. Only one small lake near the wall. The fork of the Sun River, south and north of Pretty Prairie has lots of fish. I didn't fish unfortunately, we didn't really have much free time. There were a lot of people with backpacks and fishing rods, going up and down the trails on the river stretches.

IMO, you don't need a packraft, you can wade it all from what I saw.

There is a lot of water on the trails, creek crossings.

Benchmark is a good place to go in. Good fishing on the South Fork. Stash water in case of big rain the rivers tend to silt out to the point of clogging pumps.
