Boar or Sow?

Those ears don't make me think this is a huge bear...but it's plenty big for me to shoot and that coat is beautiful. The front shoulders might be slightly wider than the ass, but it's hard to tell. I'm going with good size, young boar.

Bet on boar.
he's stomp walking and when he swings his leg out or walks with his rear feet apart, he's pee marking.
thick front legs, wide head and eyes look tiny and close together.

Mature boars tend to act agitated, especially coming into and during the rut.
Sows tend to have a calm smooth demeanor in their movement.

Well he came back to let me know his opinion of my trail cam. Unfortunately, I’m in a month long field training so I won’t be able to go set it back up for a while

Thank you for sharing it. I love it and welcome to having cameras in bear country. They can be buttholes and destroy them, move them, use them as scratching posts, etc.

One time I put out three cameras on a single trail over a mile or so. Came back to check the cameras right before season. Every single one of them was destroyed by a bear. I took a look at the cards and it was funny.

The prettiest red color phase sow was right behind me when I put the cameras out. Cameras showed her a few minutes behind me and check out the camera. This went on for all three cameras. That same night she went back to the first camera, circled it (cue Jaws music) and destroyed it, then the second camera, and then third. I've had multiple opportunities since then to take her out but I want her to keep spreading those lovely redhead genes.

Do you still have the footage? I’d love to see it. I may try putting this camera higher up in the tree and angling it downward. Maybe if it’s slightly out of sight he’ll be less inclined to mess with it. (Probably wishful thinking)
