I noticed lots of activity around the bluebird house today, and it wasn't bluebirds. The House sparrows are starting to nest. They are invasive and will kill native bluebirds and tree swallows, so I do what I can to keep them out of there, and also keep them out of the machine shed where they poop on everything.

I pulled out my PCP Taipan short: 25 caliber, launching 25 grain pellets at 890fps with shocking accuracy. Stuck it in the Bog Deathgrip, and set it up near my desk with windows open to listen for their tell-tale cheep.

I took one off the bluebird house, and one off an old satellite dish on the garage roof so far this morning.

I do the same. I end up killing several dozen each year. I use a shockingly precise (for its cost) suppressed 22lr Savage FV-SR. It’s great practice.

I’ve not gotten into air guns, but am starting to get the urge.

I can hear their distinct chirp through all the other country noises and my ears perk right up!
