Hey guys.
I have never used a bivy before and i want to get what I need the first time. All I'm looking for is a light bivy that will keep a few drips off my sleeping bag. I was camping the other night and with condensation on the inside of my sawtooth and the rain hitting on the outside my sleeping bag got wet from the condensation dripping. I want to be able to put my sleeping pad and bag inside the bivy (xtherm & kuiu 15deg). I will also be using it with a paratarp that i just bought. I don't want to wake up in the morning with condensation inside my bivy. Would the rab survival be enough or the survival lite and still breathe adequately?

Cheers.

Both of those appear to have only draw cord openings, sounds super inconvenient to use.

So the outside of your bag got wet...did it actually compromise the loft? Most really light bivies (the non-WPB ones) are little more then another layer of sleeping bag shell fabric...which is probably already DWR.

If you are set on a waterproof bivy get one in eVent, it should have the least condensation issues. The military surplus MSS bivies are surprisingly breathable, large enough for most sleep systems and cheap, Heavy is the only downside.

I use 3 different ones for my Sawtooth and Paratarp..

2 are made by TI Goat I have both the Ptarmigan and Raven, the other is a Cuben Fiber one made by Bora. I like that it protects my bag and keeps my sleeping pad under my bag at night and the screen insert keeps bugs off. These are light weight, great for inside a shelter, not a stand alone outside thing.

I just got a TIGoat Kestrel for the same application. 6.5 ounces and really small pack size.

No experience with it, but have a look at the Jimmy Tarp's Alpine Bivy. It's light, has a center-zip, and looks to be largely mesh up top, which would help with condensation inside.
