Bird Dog Puppy

socialization and obedience...potty training etc.

Our dogs naturally were introduced to birds/animals and gun fire. If we were trap shooting or sighting in rifles at the cabin. One of us would just take the puppy on the other side of the garage or a good distances away and play with them. They also just would follow the older dogs all over creation.

We didn't shy away from running tolls or saws etc around them. We would just make them aware something was going to happen. And didn't surprise them with anything like that.

I went through this last year with my pup. I started working basic commands via clicker training for recall, along with introducing him to wings to encourage the use of his nose, etc. During this time, I went out for multiple walks/runs in the field just to let him run loose with a check cord. Once he got to the point he was building confidence to where he would start working the field, I started introducing new things like live birds and gun fire—I began conditioning him during meal time, first making loud noises, followed by a dry fired air rifle overhead when eating (he was a very food driven pup) after that I started firing a 20ga from a distance during meal time and would move closer in increments as he wouldn’t lift his head from the bowl or show any signs of being startled.

Hes still work in progress—not real keen on water and hone in his force fetch but looking forward to getting him out in the field this fall.
