Bird Dog Chest Protector

My black lab is a bulldozer in the pheasant field. As a result, her chest/belly has pretty much gone bald. Now with no hair, she is getting cut up every hunt, so I’m in the market for a chest protector.

I’m looking for something that is obviously durable but doesn’t rub or hinder mobility.

What do you use in the field?

I use the Mendota Skid plate (available at scheels) on my GSP, is is a few years old now and holding up nicely. I tried the browning brand first and it only lasted a couple of hunts before being trash.

I use the browning brand chest protector for my lab, and it works well so far. However, we do not have much really thick or nasty stuff to hunt up here, so it does not have to stand up to really thick brush.

I use the cabelas vest for my toller, but it will prob last one season if you're getting into really bad stuff. Cheap enough that's not really an issue. I get 2-3 seasons out of one.

My dog has trashed cheaper vests in just a hunt or two but the Lion Country vests have held up well.

Thanks for the input. I’ve gotten some local input for Cuga vests. But I will look in the LCS vest and the Mendota skid plate
