Binos for a safari

GF is taking a girls trip to Africa in January, part of the trip is a safari.
Going to get her some binos for Christmas. $200.00 is around what I want to spend as I don’t know how much she will use them.

What’s a good power for something like this? I was thinking 6-8 power as I want to keep them small and the weight down. Will pair them with a Rick Young harness as well.

I told this is prime lion petting and rhino riding season.

Is there something specific that makes you think she will need her own binoculars?

I’d be tempted to try out the SWFA 10x Binos during the Black Friday sale.

First time she didn’t say surprise me. I’m taking advantage of that!

Get her the vortex bantams. They'll be ~$50 on sale and they're pretty damned good binos for being that cheap. Very small and light.

I'd think about it in cost per use (not just outright cost) and get something I needed as well.

6.5x32 Kowa's (or 8x) can be had for $350ish - monster FOV and may fill a nice niche elsewhere.

I would get her the Pentax Papilio II 6.5x21 Binoculars for $108 on sale on Amazon right now. If she is going to be in a safari vehicle which is going to make the 6.5x much easier to handle than an 8x. Plus it has a good FOV and the 6.5 x gives you a lot of depth so you don't have to refocus every time you look at something.

I’ve been on 4 safaris and I prefer 8X, but 6.5 and 10 have advantages too. The Nikon m7 8x30 are hard to beat but about double your budget, though you’ll love them even after the safari. Do you already have a camera picked out? I typically reach for a camera before the bins.
