Ok guys I really couldn't find anything out there where the how's and why of the popular styles was discussed. I've now done some trial and error testing on my own. Three models I've tested were the vortex standard, vortex uni ( Jim white), and the field optics. I'll post up some low quality pictures( sorry) comparing the uni and field optics (fo). The standard is pretty straight forward it must be removed each time if binoculars are to be worn. The standard did fit in my slick 707 head without an adaptor through.

uploadfromtaptalk1435420640234.jpguploadfromtaptalk1435420660320.jpg Uni this Jim white design has long been a favorite of hunters in Arizona where glassing from an tripod is standard procedure. uploadfromtaptalk1435420860910.jpg hook up to and from the tripod is quick easy and rock solid. uploadfromtaptalk1435420948198.jpguploadfromtaptalk1435420971379.jpg

uploadfromtaptalk1435421036637.jpg although the quick detachment that stays on the binocular extends past the lens I never felt it was wearing the bino on a harness. It must rest in the natural detention of my chest. uploadfromtaptalk1435421222680.jpg this was the deal breaker for me as it was to long to fit into the kuiu bino pouch.

My initial plan was to use the uni on my modified trekking pole as a monopod. It's small size didn't hamper my use at all because I rarely put my palm on top. When I dig them out I'll post a picture

uploadfromtaptalk1435421745623.jpg Field optics is fairly new and I had a hard time finding many pictures or reviews. S&S archery did a short review on youtube which was helpful.

uploadfromtaptalk1435422394921.jpg pretty simple setup with the fo. The quick detachment for the binocular has an rubber Oring so you screw it in straight mine tighten up snug and have no worries about it coming loose

uploadfromtaptalk1435422579438.jpg plenty of space to adjust for eye distance although slightly more than the uni my eyes didn't have a problem with either setup.uploadfromtaptalk1435422721310.jpg I did find the fo balances the glass better and can be attached opposite if it's more comfortable to have your face further from the tripod

uploadfromtaptalk1435422878958.jpg to release the binoculars from the adaptor you push the sliver tab in and tilt the glass up and out. First couple times it was a fight but I figured it out. Maybe with some more use it'll become a one handed move without looking. uploadfromtaptalk1435423140536.jpg without any parts hanging lower than the lens it fits in and out of the kuiu bino pouch without problem.

uploadfromtaptalk1435423289749.jpg the field optics is said to fit many monafro heads without a QD plate but is much to small for my slick 707. As you can see all the cork of the QD plate around the edges. Field optics adaptor measures 1"x 1 5/8" for reference

In summary they are similar in price and both rock soild on the tripod. Quickness of QD goes to uni but practice may even that. Field optics may fit your tripods head without QD plate adding to cost savings ( weight if your that guy) and simplicity. For me it simply it fit in the stupid pouch.

Bringing this back from the dead to add some pictures of the outdoorsman setup. When I changed binoculars I decided to see if the grass was greener with this adapter. It's a sizable amount more expensive but offers a more solid lock up and easier to attach/detach your glasses.

simply slide stud into adapter it has a spring lock. You can tighten the knob to eliminate all side to side movements of the binocular. Simply twist knob to loosen press button and unlock stud from adapter and slide apart.

There is also a short version for those wanting slightly more compact package
