I think a set of Leupold BX4 HD's would do well for you. You can find a used pair close to your price range.

I second this, but right now you can pick up a pair of BX-4 Guide Pro HD 10x42 for $425....and after handling and looking through them, they are quite impressive and not just for the money!

I will be going on my first elk hunt in Craig, Colorado this year during 3rd rifle. Looking for a pair of binoculars that will get the job done and not break the bank. They will most likely see little use after this hunt unless I make return trips but that would not be on an annual basis. Appreciate any information/recommendations. Thank you.
Which unit are you hunting? 3/301, 4, 11? And DIY or guided?
