I’d also recommend a 375 H&H.
George Gardner at GA Precision designed a modified 375 H&H reamer, that will still shoot factory ammo and maximizes performance for hand loaders.

I’m shooting the Barnes 270 grain LRX at 2839 fps, using RL-17 and Norma brass.

The Barnes 270 LRX’s are very accurate. Applied Ballistics has a Custom Drag Model for this bullet. While truing up my software, I shot a 10-shot group at 718 yards, from the prone while using a bipod and rear bag. All 10 shots were inside of 0.64 MOA.
From my perspective, the 375 H&H is about perfect. Smooth cartridge feeding, good options for brass, comfortable to shoot (smooth recoil pulse), good velocities and widely available support for the cartridge.

600 yards, less than 2” Off bipod. It’s a dream build rifle for me. everything I wanted and then some. So easy to shoot.

Thank you, it turned out awesome. I need to convince JCS to build some more stocks! I’d put my other rifles in them if he would. I like it more than the manners or McMillans I’ve had.

No reputable guide should allow a long range shot on a brown bear. You have the two guns one would ever need for any animal in the world. If you want a big caliber, get a 375 H&H, but I sure hope won’t be lobbing bullets from 100’s of yards away at brown bears with it. Recipe for bad scenario.

Looks like you have the LR spectrum covered. If your thoughts are on a brown bear hunt, 375 H&H or Ruger are hard to beat. They have some impressive capability to reach out a bit too. I would avoid the 14# long rifle with Hubble telescope versions. Brown bear hunting generally means fairly close shots and some stalking. You’ll be happiest with something you can pack around comfortably and handles well in the brush.

I really like the 338 Lapua Improved. That's what I went with. Ordered a Christensen Arms MPR and sent it to my smith to have it improved. I'm shooting the 300 Bergers at 2850 fps with the 27" barrel.

I ended up picking up a used Winchester Model 70 Control feed 375 H&H it has a Mcmillan Stock, glass bedded and floated, Mcgowan 22" barrel with a pretty low round count for $1300. So now I need to figure out the optic side of it. Thanks for all of the good Rokslide folks for your input.

375HH kicks ass, I’ve brought home a lot of meat with mine. I’d take the HH any day over the 375 Ruger.

For what its worth, I did something similar - got into long range and then decided I needed a big caliber for brown bears/grizzlies. Wound up with a 375 h&h and pretty happy with the choice. I did not set this gun up for long range though - set up to max around 300+ yds or so on hunts.

If you want a long range set up for that caliber Best of the West does a build out that a guide-friend I know has and uses more or less exclusively in Alaska. I did not want that expensive of a set up or really care about long range per se on this gun: got a Sako 85 w a 1-6 scope.

I’ve seen friends shoot Springbuck at 350-500yards with a 375h&h. I’ve had the h&h, ruger, and Dakota in 375 and you can load them with lighter bullets that can reach out pretty far. Think you’ll fall in love with the caliber once you shoot it.

375 H&H is a great AK moose & brown bear caliber!
Top it with a 1-6 x 24 optic. Your intended species are not ideal LR quarry. OTC ammo is on the shelf right now in F’banks if baggage catastrophe occurs & your ammo is lost or delayed. Have collected many moose with mine. If I had to choose only one caliber for moose & brown bear applications it is the 375 H&H!!!
