Looking for a new shelter, really my first good backpacking shelter. I really like the looks of the tarptent but found a really good deal on the Scout Plus. Anyone used both care to offer some advise or anyone with thoughts on one or the other?

Thanks,
Boswell

Scout requires a TON of stakes to make it work. I'd grab a tarptent moment dw and never look back.

I don't have a TarpTent but, I will say the scout is a great ul backcountry tent. It' s true, it needs lots of stakes, and the ones that come with it suck (unless it's completely calm). Pay attention to the wind when you pitch it and keep in mind it's a UL tent, so it's 3season at best... Great backpacking tent for 2 people (1 man). Too tight for 2 men comfortably... Lots of great storage room.

I'd go with the TarpTent. Buddy had a Scout that got destroyed by wind last year in MT. Literally tore up the tent. If you have rocky ground good luck finding a place to pitch it with all those stakes. We've had the TarpTents in pretty extreme wind conditions for two years in a row and they perform very well. Great tents.
