If you dont believe the 2A helps with public access you are crazy. Look no further than the Blue Ridge Parkway! Before George Jr. ( not Obama) EO'd firearms on National parks hunters had to obtain a Hunters Access Permit to park at designated parking areas along the BRP. So if you wanted to hunt in between 2 parking areas that were 2 miles apart you had to hump it. The NPS even charged hunters $15 one year for the permits. After the EO you can park anywhere you want, even in the grass. Now, when weather closes the BRP I can strap my Abolt to my Mystery Ranch Beartooth 80, park at the locked gate, ride my 1998 Mt. Bike to my favorite hunting spot, all because of the 2A!!!!!! But, NO I will still not re-up to BHA!View attachment 241357
No argument from me there. That's a good example.

I spent a lot of time in western NC before I moved to Oregon. I'm from the piedmont originally. Tough hunting up there in the mountains on public land.

I would've been frustrated with the example you mentioned earlier of BHA ignoring the USFS timber management meeting as well. Is that initiative looking at timber thinning specifically for improving whitetail habitat? Seems like they'd be all over that given how little quality habitat there is up there, even if it's not an access issue per se.

The timber cutting will be for all wildlife management. I hope the USFS doesn't just thin, but clear cut. There is too much outside influence here with all the enviromental terrorists!!!!! But no, I will not contribute any more of my money to BHA. I've got to join my state trappers association for good sound conservation.

seriously ?

Iḿ going to link a video. I want you to listen to 5:00-6:00. If you really want to cut to the chase jump to 5:45 and listen till 6:00.

This is the man himself speaking about how he won´t attempt to use executive action to ban assault weapons because it isn´t constitutional.

And this is leaked audio from a private meeting with cabinet officials.

If you´re worried that Biden is going to radically change your country, don´t. The whole reason for the serious level of dissatisfaction with him on the left is his do-nothingness and his willingness to pay lip service to identity politics instead of pursuing a real agenda.

Which begs the question: If he isn´t planning on any radical gun control measures (and Iḿ not really sure that an AR-15 ban would radically impact hunter participation anyway), and his party is just objectively more amenable to public lands, why would an organization dedicated to advocating for public lands and hunting access not endorse him?

I get all the criticisms of BHA. I think plenty of them are valid. The Colorado spring bear thing seems ludicrous.

But this thread was started (seemingly) expressing surprise that BHA seems ¨all in¨ with Biden. I just think it would be surprising if they weren´t.

Also, please link this ¨report.¨ I´d like to take a look at it.
AR-15s have nothing to do with hunter participation. You are lost. Very few hunters own one type of rifle. My 12yo uses an AR15 and used an “AR10” large frame in 308 for hunting this year. It’s about choice and freedom. ARs are in common use now. Millions upon millions are owned by The People. Do I want to lug a 12lb Large Frame AR over hill and dale? No but we use them because we can. They’re a great tool for multiple uses. I used my Browning HCS today but Sunday I’ll probably use the Large Frame 308.

I think the real reason I can’t get behind BHA is because they promote pint nights at craft breweries. I can’t stand craft beers and the ”culture” associated with them.

The world seemed so much simpler, and the hunting everywhere seemed so much better when we just had domestic beers.

Think about it, once craft beers hit the scene everybody started getting together and talking about the nuances of flavor and obsessing over these damn beers. Brewers started coming up with cheesy names for their beers, and added trendy merchandising of stickers and trucker hats to accompany their beers. I think all this led to people starting to “share feelings“ over beers and that’s where it all started to go wrong. Sharing feelings is for wine drinkers and people in therapy. You get a bunch of people in a room talking about the 2nd amendment, public land, and point creep while drinking these stupid craft beers and you‘re going to start having arguments.

Seems like we could heal as a group if we all just started drinking whatever is cheapest and coldest.

that’s what it is.. could never put my finger on it but it makes sense. I’m a PBR drinker and I don’t have a hip beard and handlebar mustache, I just like to get in to the woods rather than be part of an “I get in to the woods” scene. now it makes sense, the same assholes that pontificate over the nuances between one shitty IPA and the other shitty IPA while stroking their beards and twisting their mustaches are the same guys that all show up with their public land owner tshirts.

I'm not saying that they do. I'm not against hunting with AR platform rifles. I'm not opposed to anyone owning them either.

This thread was about BHA expressing support for Biden's pick for USDA.

Someone countered that they shouldn't have done that because Biden was planning to use executive orders to implement some gun control measures. So I posted a video that was leaked from a meeting with some of his cabinet officials (who very likely would like to see him attempt that) where he said he wouldn't because it's an unconstitutional use of executive authority. He'll probably try to pass legislation to that end that very predictably won't make it through the senate.

But that's all tangential.

The main thing is it wouldn't be surprising for a public land advocacy group to express some support for the dude's USDA pick.

I mean someone already posted them saying similarly positive things about Trump's pick for the same position back in 2016.

Do a quick internet search for PBR and hipsters. You're gonna have a bad time.

Literally just drove by a trailer park that had a giant flag pole out front.
Up top was the US flag, under that was a giant Pabst Blue Ribbon flag, under that was a trump flag, and under that was a #3 Dale flag all flowing beautifully in the southern Ohio breeze.

I’m serious I almost pulled over and got a pic

I have read dozens of BHA’s negative and personal attacks against Trump pics. I only learned of Land Tawney’s positive comments about a Trump appointment from the post in this thread.

I don’t mind advocacy for/against policy, but am against the partisan attacks.

In rereading your original post itś also clear that you´ve had significantly more experience than me with the organization, given how long you´ve been a member and your level of involvement. I could understand the frustration on your end. I don´t think hyper-partisanship is going to be useful for dealing with future threats to public land conservation. They´d do better not to alienate a significant portion of their potential support base.

That said, I think there´s some fairly valid accusations you could make regarding the Trump administration´s record on public lands. Depending on your stance on how certain pieces of public land should best be managed you might take a dim view of certain recent-ish decisions Trump´s made.

BHA has done some alright stuff in my state, that I´ve personally benefited from. Iḿ certainly going to delve deeper into them after some of the comments in this thread before paying dues again. I let my membership lapse last year. Plenty of thoughtful, reasonable arguments posed here for looking into them further.

This is the best post in this thread.

Everyone here likes guns. Everyone here likes public land.

Some guys have a serious and oddly specific problem with microbrews. And I can be okay with that too.

I didn’t read through all of this BUT you say there are people here who have problems with microbrews???? That’s terrible.

I’m checking out of this one. Look up Ryan Busse of Kimber and BHA and his gun control love and then get on Vortex’s azz about supporting BHA and their wait and see attitude towards that support. Vortex won’t change what’s going on but the publicity is great for their warranty.
