BF Goodrich KO2 or KO3

I've run KO2's on my previous vehicle (92 Chevy) and current vehicle (2012 Tacoma) for about 20 years straight (swap in studded winter tires when the snow starts flying). Now they have the KO3 and wondering if anyone has made the switch and what their thoughts are?

KO3 has been an improvement in my opinion. They're quieter and overall performance has been better for me in all conditions except mud, haven't had em in mud yet. Snow, ice, dirt roads, pavement ect KO3 has been better for me.

I’m almost a year into the KO3’s on my 4Runner and I’m surprised by how well they balance road noise and without giving up off road capability.

Have the 3s, they're excellent. They seem just as good offroad, if not a bit better in their ability to get rid of any gravel they pick up. They are notably better on the road - a bit more responsive with a better overall ride, much quieter, and seem a bit tougher too in terms of long-term wear.

Big fan of the K03 better in the rain than the 2s and quieter as others noted.

I’ve got 3s on my taco and 2’s on my wife’s 4runner. There will be 3’s on her 4 runner when the 2’s finally wear out.

The 3’s are better mannered on the road without giving up any performance off road from what I can tell.

I put KO2’s on my 2006 Chevy last October 2024 because I got a good deal on them. I’ve been pretty happy with them so I’m sure the KO3’s would be even better.

Only complaint I've heard so far on the 3's is one guy at work having a hell of a time getting them balanced, but that's probably more of a reflection of the tire tech (Discount Tire) than the tire itself.

Wife's 4runner has 60,000 on a set of KO2 10 plies. Was going to replace in another 5,000 miles. Have to see if the KO3 comes in a 10 ply or not.

Just checked, 10 ply is available. I'll grab a set in a few months.

The 3's sound promising; I've loved the performance 2's and they wear like iron (which is good as they are spendy as hell!).

Mine have always been 10 plys too and looks like the 3 is offered in 10 ply in 275/70/17

Ten ply on a Tacoma/4Runner/etc. is unnecessary weight that results in a reduction in power and fuel efficiency. Tire shops prefer to sell one tire to both mid and full size vehicles, so they usually stock only 10-ply in pickup size tires, and unfortunately, 6-ply tires have become more and more rare over the years. The 6-ply Duratrac that I really like has been discontinued. I'd like to try either one of these BFG models, but it appears they don't make them in a LT265/75R16 6-ply.

10 ply's really cut down on the wear and tear of the jack and tire iron though.

That's not been my experience, but the guys at the tire shop will sure preach it in effort to mount that day instead of ordering in the 6 ply. Every offroad flat that I got did or would have gone through 10 as much as it did 6.

Our company has 500+ pickups operating on various dirt roads throughout the west and 6's simply don't cut it. 10's on everything is SOP.

What size pickups and what are you hauling/towing? You definitely don't want 6-ply on 1 ton crummys, but if you're running a small pickup like a Tacoma and you weight #5k on a heavy day, you're better off with the 6-ply.
