WTS BEWARE x2

Hey guys,
I just googled "WTS Garmin Xero C1 Pro forum" and look at this. Recognize the handwriting? It’s not just Rokslide. Look at how the shadow overlaps the timestamp on that apple. The Garmin seller's a total scammer, and he’s definitely one of us.

Alright, I've spent hours trying to figure out who it could be and going through more posts, but it's probably impossible to track down. Stay safe, everyone. I'll keep reporting any suspicious posts I come across.

kscowboy01 posted a Trijicon SRO at $225 over the weekend. I jumped on that and couldn’t send my payment quick enough. I asked what form of payment and was told PayPal Friends and Family or Money Order. I sent payment via Goods and Services and payed extra so he would not be impacted by the fee. Initially he was thrilled he got payment then realized I paid goods and services. Quickly he got frustrated stating there would now be delays in receiving funds on his end. I informed him as soon as he ships the item and provides tracking usually payment is received within 24hours. He went on to express frustration and I felt a little bad since I initially told him that I would do friends and family. Glad I listened to my intuition because the next day I received a message from him stating that he was hacked and any prior communications was not him. I reported this fraud to PayPal and they refunded my money instantly. The post for the Trijicon SRO has been removed entirely from the forum.

SRO for $225????

Same guy almost got me. What was particularly clever, is he put up an almost too good to be true price, but said it had no box, just got pulled off a gun he sold, and didn't even have screws. This was definitely not the typical scammer, and definitely seemed to be part of the US gun/hunting world to some degree.

This sucks, but thankfully it's a rarity with this forum so far.

I always offer G&S and I steer clear of anyone insisting on me not using it. If 4% is a dealbreaker, it wasn't really a good deal to begin with.

Yep, but If you're dealing with anything firearm related, G&S won't really protect you, because PayPal doesn't cover transactions that involve restricted items. So even if you got scammed, if you opened a dispute and it came up as involving something like that, you'd be risking getting your account locked too. You could end up with no product and no access to your account, which is a nightmare. :)

I won’t use PayPal at all if I can help it. Too many issues on too many levels.

Well he has yet to get back in contact with me over the stupid cheap leupold vx5hd 2-10. Greed got the best of me this time I knew better than to jump into something like that.

Yep, hence the face-to-face and G&S requirements. These a-holes are doing everything they can to sound like WKRs and fitting right in.

What would it take to make it so the 2FA sends a code over text instead of only the email or Authenticator app options? Email runs the risk of being able to be hacked as well. They’d need your phone though to get the text 2FA. As far as Authenticator apps, they’re annoying to use and no more effective than text message 2FA as far as I can tell

Ok
Wtf,I will say it.
Why would anyone keep paying f&f now days.
Why not spend 30 seconds on the phone with them.
Even if you think its ligit it still may not be.These jackasses are getting better.
If you’re that cheap to not pay the 3% you probably shouldn’t be buying the gear.
Sorry about your situation.

Just note that the scammers are also following and seeing how everyone is trying to not get caught by them and adapting their tactics to trick the next guy.

Is the price too good to be true?

Would help if people buying and selling here actually leave feedback. I’ve bought and sold multiple items here and I have 2 Feedback. If you don’t think the feedback is important but worry about scammers, kind of interesting thought process there…🤔

Buying or selling, post on the thread if a PM is sent. That lets everyone know that there’s already a potential deal happening and its out in the open.

I provide my name, address and phone number in the PM back to a buyer or seller. I should receive the same.

People worry about getting scammed and it is a valid concern but deals work both ways. Some buyers also flake out.

Same. I wish people would leave feedback. I’d say it’s about 50/50. I usually remind people to leave feedback if they’re happy once their product arrives. Personally I leave feedback the moment someone pays.

I don’t really post “I’ll take it” anymore if I’m buying something. That seems to really bring out the scammers.

I’ve bought and sold probably $20-25K worth of stuff including lots of high end optics on various forums over the past the year and half or so. I’ve had zero problems. Guess I’m just lucky. Or cautious. Or both.

I’ve used every form of payment and had zero problems.

I ask for FaceTime / video chat for high ticket items. That seems to be working well. I’ve had one person say he was unable. That was the end of the conversation.

I don’t know. Doesn’t seem that complicated. Annoying yes. Complicated no.

Feedback would have worked when people would scam from brand new FNG accounts or just their own accounts in general, but that is meaningless now as far as scammers go because they operate by hacking accounts of WKRs who have positive feedback after all. Someone may have been on their account yesterday and have great feedback, but today their account is hacked, they post a really good deal, then try to scam a bunch of people as fast as possible.

The best option is requiring 2FA to use classifieds AND FaceTiming/video chatting before buying. That would solve all scam issues with where technology is currently at
