WTS BEWARE x2

Radio silence here as well. I’ve done lots of transactions on here with PayPal F&F with no issues, as long as it’s an established member with transaction history with other members. If it’s a new member, or anything seems off, I’ve always just paid the fee for G&S.

I guess this time it bit me. I’m just shocked at how well he faked it. I’ve never known a scammer to post relevant trades, and I usually have a good eye for the fraudulent photoshopped timestamps. I’m shocked that a scammer would know what a Kestrel or PRS is.

I’m still holding out hope that this was some big (and strange) mixup, but it’s not looking good

I’m holding on to hope as well but I think our odds or low. Best I can tell was it was a legit account with a well respected guy and then someone else got a hold of it and burned us with his good name.

It’s likely someone familiar with the forum or with hunting doing the scamming. Or they’re using AI to generate authentic looking posts as well. Most of these instances where someone with good feedback is a scammer, it’s that their account was hacked. Often times it’ll be an account that hadn’t been logged into in a long time which can be a giveaway, but sometimes not. It seems like most of the scams are from WKR accounts that have been hacked lately

Yeah, they are finding old dormant accounts. At this point, if you don't have a Unique username and PW on all accounts or 2A set up your accounts, you're an idiot, and it's your fault.

Joel is a stand up guy, I’ll try and alert him!
That would be awesome, thank you! It looked like he had tried to post something saying he had been hacked but the thread was quickly closed and locked. Unfortunately I had already sent payment the day previous.

I was alerted that I may have been hacked and my account was being used to scam. I can assure everyone that it was not me if admin could please contact me so I can know what to do if it was my account used to scam

This happened to me a few months ago. Account got hacked and overnight they unfortunately got one guy till send payment via Zelle. I was luckily able to log in quickly and prevent the other guys he was scamming from sending funds.

Two factor in needed these days, it was a good password but probably farmed from a data leak somewhere.

Also good to confirm with sellers over phone/text/video on expensive items.

This is a first for me. I’ve always done F&F without an issue. I think it will also be the last time. Not worth not having it.
Never, ever, ever use friends and family unless you’ve actually sat down and had dinner with the guy. In that case he would actually be considered friends and family. I had a guy who sold me a bow, I sent money using Venmo G&S. He then ghosted me. Day or so later messaged me that his account “got hacked”. As soon as I sent that screenshot to Venmo I got my money back.

See these threads and it is unfortunate. It's not worth using F&F the one time you get burnt. Its usually a small amount of money in comparison of what you are going to lose if you get scammed.

I also always provide my phone number with expectations of receiving a phone number. If I don't get a phone number I pass. I check that the area code matches the state and location from where it will be shipped from. Will also send a text or call and talk person to person. I also ask for additional pics etc. etc.

I have passed up legitimate deals because the seller wasn't willing to provide the info that I was requesting.

Anyway, people probably get irritated by the "you should have done this and should have done that", but I think it is good that these posts come up periodically. If it can save one person from being scammed then job well done.

I think I’m stuck because of friends and family through PayPal. Had I done goods and services I would have been covered. Still radio silence from the selling party.
Yeah, it gets sticky. If it paid from a credit card to PayPal you can file a dispute with the credit card company but PayPal won’t be any help.

When I do a sale, I usually ask for F&F based on my reviews, but don’t demand it and split the cost of the fees if the buyer isn’t comfortable doing so. I’m also always willing to meet locally or do a FaceTime or call.

Crazy you said he has good feedback. Hopefully he decides having some character and his word as a man is more important than getting a few dollars at the expense of it all.

I couldn’t look myself in the mirror knowing I was someone with such a lack of morals and character

Dang brother. That sucks. Glad you are in the loop and can take care of it. Sorry they used your name to do this garbage.

Yep, Joel's as solid a dude as anyone could find anytime, anywhere, vouch for him 100%.

Sorry this happened to you guys. This is an ongoing problem both here and elsewhere. I was recently just reimbursed for Swarovskis from a scam here. G&S is mandatory!

I truly believe he was a legitimate member and a stand up dude from the messages I received. I don’t think it was him at all, just some guy who had his login credentials and knew enough about the items listed to post hard to pass deals. In the end it’s my fault and I was complacent. Learn from my mistake and use goods and services!

Just google the words on the ads that seem a little "too good to be true" guys

10 times out of 10 it is just robbed words from an old ad.

Plus... please delete your old ads photos to not give the scammers so much ammunition

This is such an issue on this forum, can we just implement 2FA as a requirement to post a classified or use PM's? Sure, it's not the complete answer but it would help to reduce the hacking of established "good looking" accounts. 2FA is a thing because of this kind of stuff. It's not fool proof because a hacker can add 2FA on a burner phone/email, but it's at least one more hurdle.

Also, no electronic payment is safe. I got scammed using PP G&S. Luckily I got my money back, but had I been more item specific on my note, they could have denied my claim as violating their policies. So if you do use G&S, make sure your note does not leave interpretation that you are buying something that violates PP's policies.

@Ryan Avery
We might have another member hacked and scam underway. I reported the two listings and PM'd the buyer (who said he was beaten to the punch). I really hope it's not a scam, but 1/3 the price screams scam.
