Better Insurance Options?

You may be surprised that you cannot save much by switching. Insurance rates have been skyrocketing everywhere. I have never had a speeding ticket in 46 years of driving, have filed 2 claims 25+ years ago (both deer collisions) and neither my wife and I have been in a auto collision of any kind in 30 years or more, none of them our fault. Yet our insurance rates on our home (no claims filed either, ever) have doubled in the last 2-3 years. This might belong in the gripe thread.

Just be wary of getting minimum insurance. If you hit a new vehicle today and its totaled, and they often are, you will be paying a lot out of your pocket. Lots of newer vehicles are in the 80-120K range or more, my new f450 was 100k. my state minimum is 35K, which won't go very far today. same for personal injury. Better have an umbrella policy.

If you are eligible to join USAA, contemplate it. They are a solid insurance company. We haven't had a rate increase in three years, which was when I increased coverages myself.
