Best Wyoming elk unit number wise??

I have been lurking on this thread for awhile and I know it's early have some questions from those that have more experience in wy!

I and my two hunting mentors who are both getting older one is 68 in good shape the other is 55 or so and fell out of a stand a few years ago and has hip issues! We have been applying for wy points for 7 years and will have max points, 8 for a trip in 2017!

I have been elk hunting otc in co the last few years and been doing pretty well, but just stamina wise neither of my mentors could handle a hunt like that! Both have hunted the breaks in mt and have liked that! This is most likely one of the last opportunities they will have for a great elk hunt and I want to help them to achieve it!

As far as elk size goes neither of them cares much looking for a 250 inch plus which is doable in most general wy units, they are looking for the best opportunity for elk numbers and access.

Any help would be greatly appriceated both of these men mean a lot to me and I would love to see them have an awesome experience!

Looks like 2300 or so have ten points this year. Almost 7000 have 8 or more in 2016.

Being a resident I have no idea what units you can draw with points. Do some research and figure out some units you can draw then maybe I or others can give you some info

We have looked a lot into 38,22,24,7,35,39,40,41,45,120 and many more.

This would be the vast majority of wy besides wilderness areas, there would be only a few we could not draw!

You're not reading the draw odds correctly, assuming your talking the regular draw.

You need to be looking at units that took seven points or less to draw in 2015, that will be equivalent to 9 points in 2017, point creep ensures this. You won't even sniff 22, 24 or 100, 10% odds in 7,45 and 120

Re-reading your posts you're all over the place with the points, if you've been buying points for 7 years you'd have 7 right now which would mean 7 for the 2016 draw and 8 for the 2017 draw. You don't get a point until you're unsuccessful in that years draw, if this is the case you actually need to be looking at what took 6 points in 2015.

So would you recommend waiting a few years to try to get a better unit, you are correct we will buy a point this summer for 8 points going into the draw I was a year off!

I don't think a few years will change your situation your stuck in middle tier units. Over 2000 people have more points than you three tiers away from max points. You should have no problem fulfilling your goals in the units you can draw though
