Looking for some new wools socks for hunting, what's everyone using to keep their feet warm?

If not using wool, what else do you recommend?

Darn tough or first lite. And I stopped using liner socks this year. Got one pair of kuiu socks and don't really like them.

I used to use darn tough but my feet always got really sweaty and then cold or if it was hot out clammy and had blister problems. This year I went back to lorpen merino light hiker which I like and Bridgedale wool fusion. They both worked much better managing sweat on my feet. The KUIU sock worked well also. First lite are too small so I gave my pair of those to my friend and he likes them. I still like darn toughs but I have to switch socks multiple times a day.

I just used Smart wool Mountaineering socks on my last hunt and they held up pretty well. My First Lite compression socks are a little too thin for this time of year, but when I'm hiking in the summer I like them.

I like Darn Tough. They make several different weights and styles for different weather conditions.
As BPH points out, socks come in various weights, think of them as baselayers for your feet, to thick and you sweat, to thin and you have cold feet. An assortment of weights will cover a variety of temperatures, an extra dry pair in your pack is priceless!

First time I used DT they felt sweaty on my feet but after a couple washings they are fine. I have some keens socks as well that are pretty good but more like a rag wool style than fine spun like FL or DT.

All I wear are the Kirkland Signature merino wool socks from Costco, 4 pair of socks for $12! I've got 6 or 8 pair in rotation and another 5 or 6 unopened 4 packs ready when needed. I find them to be tough (I can only think of 1 or 2 socks that have ever gotten a whole in them) and plenty warm.

For keeping my feet warm, I concentrate more on the boots I'm wearing than my socks. I have some super thick wool socks over a liner sock I'll use with my Sorel pac boots, but those are too thick for normal boots.

For normal boots and warm weather hunting it's more about moisture management and comfort than keeping my feet warm. For those I use Smartwool Classic boot socks over a poly liner sock. I can go all day with those and they stay put. I didn't like the Darn Tough socks as I spent more time trying to keep them in place than hiking. They always ended up bunching inside my boot. The SW Classics don't budge on me.

Kenetrek Ultimate Liner sock under the Kenetrek Alaska sock. Kinda pricey, but by far the best system I have found over the years. No blisters, no sweaty feet, and my feet stay warm.

+1 darn tough. They have a lifetime warranty on their socks. I've worn through several pairs of smart wool socks, and their lighter weight socks just don't stay together. I also have some REI socks that have done really well for me. I normally pack one pair of liners in case I get a hot spot, but don't normally wear them.

My feet are pretty jacked up so they are always cold. Recently I started using a set of Scarpa Fuego boots and smartwool expedition socks. When I'm moving my feet stay warm and it takes a bit to get them cold once I'm stationary.

I know that it's more than just the socks, some mentioned layers and boots. It is also important to note that circulation is an important consideration as well.

I wear darn toughs every day now, have been for a year and haven't worn a hole in them yet. Another vote for them.

On the recommendation of one of the lathrop brothers, I put one swipe of antiperspirant on the sole of each foot when I start my day and have been blown away by how much that helps with sweat. I have a little travel sized one that I keep in my kit for backcountry use. Works awesome for me.

I use REI as they have more merino but the one pair of darn Tuff I bought last year are pretty impressive. Trewgear has the same mapped merino sock that KUIU sells so you might look there as well.
