The OD head is a premium piece of equipment. I think it was money well spent and should last a lifetime . Mine shows 11 oz on my scale.

Used the code "Rokslide" on S&S and a 624 was like $205 shipped. I got mine a few weeks ago and am really impressed with it especially when it only weighs 2 lbs with a ballhead.

I ended up with the outdoorsman head as well as their adapter head and reducer to mount their head to the slik 624. Should have a killer setup to play with in a week or so.

The Vortex High Country seems like a solid tripod for $110 clams. I plan on using a Zeiss Diascope 65mm and the vortex looks like it would support it, any thoughts. The spotter is in the mail now and I would rather not drop a couple hundred on a tripod at the moment.

Not sure if you've pulled the trigger on the High Country but I'd pass. I use it with my Razor 50 mm spotter and it's just ok. The ball head didn't handle my Viper 65 mm well at all.

I have the Vortex Summit SS with the Vanguard PH-111v. Would be hard to beat for under $200. Holds my Swaro ATM65 rock solid.

Who has a 700rc2 head and has used it in really cold weather ? It's spec operating lower limit is 14ºF (-10ºC). It's a fluid head so I wonder if it will freeze up or be damaged if it goes lower. It's a real possibility for me when I head for Montana to hunt elk in November.

I'm not sure if I've used it below those temps for any extended times (certainly for 10-15 min glassine outside my truck in winter), but I've been real close to those temps on late season trips without issue.

I have used my 700RC2 head in the single digit temps and haven't had any issues.
