Hello, friends.

I am buying a Tikka, this time with a threaded barrel, in my beloved .270 Winchester and I need some recommendations for the best budget setup I can get!

I don’t have much money for this right now, so please bear with me… But I am getting ready for the season!

Thank you all. The best site around! 😁

There you go about $450 total for both, feel free to send me the extra $50 for the leg work.😁

I'm not big on the rails and weaver style rings. Prefer one piece or two piece base/ring combination.

This is a decent hunting scope for $250 but it isn't a dialer.

I have a Viper (2-7x36) in Leupold mounts and a Huron (3-9x40) in DMZ mount. Both hold zero - Viper for 10+ years and diff people using it, Huron was new last year.

You didn't say if you wanted to hunt to 600 yards or not. I went with what I'd get/kinda already have, with a 400 yard max. Good luck.

Without dialing - a set of sportsmatch rings and a Trijicon 3-9 or 3-12 huron or ascent - will get you close to the $500 mark, maybe under if you wait to find used stuff.

If you want to dial, add another couple hundred to your budget. Or go with a fixed SWFA 10x if this is for an open country rifle.

You dial with that Huron?

It’s gonna be a set and forget.

Also, Huron or the Ascent?

If you’ll never dial as you indicate here then get capped turrets. If you’ll dial then I would not choose a trijicon with capped turrets, as while mine have dialed accurately they are designed to be capped and they spin very easily. Imo too easily, its just asking to accidentally lose zero when you have cold hands, etc.

Huron vs ascent—whichever one has the reticle and magnification you prefer. Example, for the use you are describing I’ll take a German #4 or a duplex reticle over almost any bdc reticle 12 days a week, so that limits me between those two options. Your preference may be different.

I'd lean towards the Ascent for the regular reticle hashes over the BDC guestimate of the Huron. I believe the Ascent are 2 MOA hashes? The Huron BDC is great if it liens up, but if it doesn't you have to memorize random yardages.
You dont have to memorize yardage and more than you have to memorize a dope card. Just tape the values to the top of the scope.

Or for set and forget, if you like those Trijicons, the sportsmatch TO48s, for the 1" tube, but they're a bit higher than the 84s.
