Best Tent for Early Archery High Country Mulies

Looking for guys with some early season high country archery mulie experience.

Going solo for the first time this year. Colorado - 11k+ feet.

I have a tipi shelter that I love (VIAM Outdoors Madison) and is super lightweight, but I am concerned about the wind.

Should I use a lower profile shelter like a Hilleberg Anjan (or similar)? These tents run about 3.5#s ish but are a lot sturdier in rough weather.

Recommendations? Thanks!

I run a big Agnes copper spur hv ul2 for archery it’s as legit as they come! The 2020 updated version. I’m 6ft 190 and It’s very comfy for one guy and gear a little tight for two but doable in a ultralight scenario

WRT wind. Generally speaking I'm trying to set camp in a thicket or tree line or something to hide and glass from if possible and or weather break.

Seek Outside Silex or Eolus can handle alot of wind and nasty weather. Really light depending on how you run them. A hilliberg is never a bad choice either though

Seek outside silvertip sheds wind incredibly and has enough stake outs to be sturdy in any weather. With stakes it comes in around 2lbs

Big Agnes UL here as well. I’ve had mine in up to 50 MPH gusts with no problem. Stood up to light snow and heavy rain. Can’t say enough good things about it.

The high country can give some brutal weather even in September. Hilleberg would be a good choice if you are going to be above tree line.

2nd this. If solo, hard to beat the Akto for weight and weather capability. Snug, no extra room, but comfortable for hunting IMO. Absolutely bomb proof in wind and snow

Like @powds Im running the BT2, predecessor of the silvertip from SO. Handles wind like a champ and even in snow/rain it has not let me down. Also has the stove capability, and weighs 52 oz with tent stove pole and stakes. Wish I could stand up in it but I cant afford a dcf cimarron... yet.

CO high country mule deer is not brooks range shitty weather sheep. Big Agnes will do just fine unless you are expecting a week of 50 mile per hour winds and snow or something.

Best is usually what you can afford! I have 3 depending on how comfortable I want to be. 2 person that weighs less than 2lbs but small and not a great tent to sit in all day while raining.

I also have another bigger 2 person that is pretty nice and light. Worked great on 2 hunts this year.


than a super nice big 4 person A frame/outfitter light weight tent that weighs 15lbs.


All are great options, just depends on your situation and budget.

Regardless of what tent you choose, you don't have to set it up at 12,000 ft out in the open above treeline. I know the photos of those set ups look cool but you don't have to be able glass from your tent. Be smart about where you set up. Tuck the tent in somewhere safe and out of the onslaught of wind, rain or snow. It's easy enough to make short hikes to glassing points.

Tarp tent rainbow has done well for me. Going on year 4. 36OZ and big enough for a lot of gear, or 2nd person in a pinch. Relatively affordable

Second this - I run the UL3 because I needed extra space for backpacking with my girl, but even that is very light, packable, spacious and sturdy.
