I’ve killed several black bears. I’ve always wanted to take a color phase (cinnamon bear). What is the best state to accomplish that in. It looks as if Colorado offers a good chance

I have seen several cinnamon here in California. Have seen a couple of blond as well. Coolest one I have ever seen was a cinnamon with a blond strip from its head to tail. Not big but beautiful. No tag unfortunately.

I sold a bear dog into northern California one time. I didn’t realize they had color phase bears

The sierras are full of them. I glassed up this hog 2 weeks ago.

Dang right. I want one. Plus I love bear meat. I want to spot and stalk with a bow. I basically only bear hunt with a bow. I’ve done the rifle thing

California is right in your wheelhouse. Hounds and baiting both illegal. You can use air dispersed scents as long as you do not apply it to a tree, rock, etc. Just stay up north to avoid the infamous California non sense.

Yea I ain’t sure about California they may lock me up when my filter falls off. When did they do away with hounds?

Most of the bears I have spotted in Montana were color phase and same here in California. I have seen sows with two different color offspring which makes sense since a sow can have offspring from multiple boars in the same year.

My experience has been the drier the more avg light color bears. Not sure why that is but NM, CA, drier areas of Montana. Coastal black bears are usually very dark with a few exceptions in certain areas.

I know a high dry glacier canyon in Alaska that we saw 8 color phase black bears in 10 days, no black ones. I ended up taking one on the way back to the runway, just too nice not to take home.

They never get 1700, I see tons of bears and it will cost you around $500 to hunt CA as a non res for bear. You will be doing the deer a favor. So far this year I’ve seen at least one bear on every morning I’ve glassed for deer.

Dang I may very well. My dad retires in 10 months so we are making tons of plans

I had thirty bear sightings last season. We killed the biggest two we saw. Also lost one with archery gear. September through November is best chances but you can hit Early archery north coast berry bears in august too.

California Sierras. I see more blonde, cinnamon, and brown than black by far. Lots and lots of bears in B zone and D3-5. Message me if you need more info.
