Weather can make for some incredible photos! Lets see em!

I always liked these two. Two different storms approaching at our cabin. One of them wasn't so bad, other one absolutely hammered us with 55+ mph gusts and lots of electrical. We had the boat out of the water for that one thank goodness. The other one we had the old pontoon barge I built and it washed up 20' off the water and had to push it back in with the truck.

This is so far the only time I was legitimately concerned we could be in danger.

This is my brother's Bighorn hunt.
In the first pic, we're enjoying the sun after a cold, rainy morning and a hellatious pack up the mountain.
in the top edge of the pic looks like smoke, that's snow.

We we're watching it all day expecting it to come towards us. It didn't so we were care free all afternoon.


The second pic is a snow wall about to hit us. Just as we crested the ridge, a blizzard blindsided us from the side we couldn't see.

it went from 65 to 28 in 20 minutes. Wet snow and 30mph wind had us instantly soaked before we realized it wasn't just a flurry.

Once at the top, my brother had to go at least a mile to the truck while my buddy and I used our packs as wind breaks. We were just starting to get concerned my brother had trouble finding the truck, we started looking for something to burn and get out of the wind when we saw headlights through the snow.

Then we had a mile or so of two track that was sketchy and one really bad spot if it was slick. Once we made it past the worst spot, we literally all breathed a big sigh of relief knowing we made it!

That was the day I learned a fire kit was more than a lighter somewhere in my pack.

Have this one roll through a few years back. Got down in a little depression and rode it out, passed in a few minutes like it was never there.

Got caught in a large thunderstorm 30 miles offshore. Normally they break up before they push out that far, or… you can drive south or north around them. Well… this particular day a wall 100 miles long pushed out and didn’t break up. Couldn’t outrun it, had to turn back into it. Thankfully had radar so could pick my way through some of the thinner clouds.

It got nautical. Ice cold wind, lightning everywhere, had to keep the bow raised to prevent from taking too many waves over the bow. Had everyone dawn life jackets and grabbed the ditch bag just in case (contains Epirbs/flares, etc).

That was a fun day… thankfully the fishing was great!

Not exactly weather, but it’s very rare here for there to be no wind and temps over 100 degrees. That haze is smoke from fires.

This was a wildly disorienting flat light January day ptarmigan hunting a few winters ago. This pic was about 11am. I tried to see if I had a "normal day" pic in that area but couldn't find one. I might have to run up there and take one this week.

No, there isn't fog. It's just overcast in a mountain valley. That pic is about a 400 yard flattish area with a tall hillside/mountain at the back. I fell into so many invisible troughs and holes that day. I ran into more boulders and steep hills than Mr. Magoo could've managed. At one point I ended up suspended upside-down by my skis with my head and shoulders on a frozen creek that I simply couldn't see right in front of me. That was when I decided to pull the plug that day and stick to the trail back to the truck.
