I would looked for some used scopes. Nikon isn’t making scopes anymore and you might be able to find some of theirs on mark down.

I own a few Vortex diamondback 3-9x40 with bdc reticle. About $100 refurbished. No complaints, always held zero etc.

I’ve had good luck with Nikon pro staff. I’ve been amazed how well they hold zero. Literally flew to AK, spent the summer running River and flying on a couple bush flights with it. Flew it home at the end of the summer. Busted a coyote on the farm at 300 yards, hadn’t checked zero all summer.

I have several of the Vortex Diamondbacks and Nikon Pro Staffs. Carry a rifle under back seat of both trucks (so they get banged around some), some are in safe but get carried/used along with the truck guns when I'm out stomping around or riding 4 wheelers. Have been that way for years. Never check zero, but every time they go bang, something hits the dirt.

imo they are fool proof as long as you don't drop it down a mountain or run over them with your truck.
Now that Nikon is going out, I'd love to pick up a half dozen or so of the Pro Staffs just to have to put on stuff in the future. Just waiting to see how low they may go.

Look around for Nikons when they go on sale here in the near future. Since they are no longer making scopes, they should get cheap. I have already seen a few places putting them on clearance.

My all-time favorite under $150 is my Weaver Classic K-6 that rides on my Tikka 7mm-08. Great scope if you can find one, and if you want a fixed power.

For variables, it's going to be hard to beat the Burris Fullfield II.

Look for a used Leupold VX-1, they have always done very well for me.
