Best red dot for turkeys

Leaning towards a Burris myself

There are only a handful or red-dot manufacturers that are more or less bombproof on a hard-recoiling field gun, especially over the course of years. I run them hard on handguns especially. Best recommendation I could offer would be a Trijicon RCR (enclosed is a very good idea for a field gun, as opposed to an open emitter, which can mud, snow, etc get into it and block the laser), or an Aimpoint of some flavor. They're also the least likely to show any bloom to the dot from what I can tell. If you don't have any astigmatism at all, you might find good luck with Holosun too, which are notably cheaper, and hold up well for a lot of guys in the competition world.

If you want the best I’d get a scalarworks mount and the aimpoint t2. I originally had the sumtoy/venom setup on here and it worked fine, just got the wild hair to upgrade

I went the scalar works with trijicon RMR with a 1 moa red dot. Ive been very happy with it for 3 years now.

That looks like a great setup, too bad I have the 2 bolt pattern (20g)

Yep that sucks. If its a dedicated turkey gun I would seriously consider drilling and tapping.

I leave a turkey gun setup at all year. My TSS shells were $10 each so I dont want to have to sight in every year.

The gun is good to 80 but I like to keep it inside 50.

Yeah I’m thinking it’ll be more of a do it all gun. The wife will use for turkeys (hence 20g) and I’ll use for upland.

I was in the same boat as you last year and wanted the best red dot. Ended up going with a Williams. It came with the base and I could not be happier. Unlike most others, the red dot is very low and makes shooting feel more natural with the shotgun.

Why? The PSA stripped down Holosun HS407A3 X2 is currently $159 because they just announced the new model at Shot show.

Burris fast fires have no real upside besides being cheap. Holosun is like 90% of the way to Trijicon/Aimpoint and you can save a lot by picking the dot only non solar models (407) over the multi reticle solar back up (507).

Another reason I upgraded to a closed emitter over the open emitter is I had some issues with my vortex venom when hunting in the rain.
Drilling and tapping isn’t to hard. I took my brandnew benelli and put it on the drill press, made me nervous but it wasn’t bad at all.
I had a do it all gun for a bit, I took that red dot on and off for a season or two and said enough of that. Sounds like a good reason to buy another gun to me.

That sounds good. Would you mount with the Robert’s picatinny, or the Egw? I’m not exactly sure what you meant by filing the rear of the egw

The picatinny mount will leave you with a horrible stack height like 5/8” once you add the adapter. The EGW is so much more streamlined and lower. Shown is the EGW RMR Universal mount and an EGW Benelli pic rail with the RMR adapter bolted on. IMG_4827.jpegIMG_4823.jpegIMG_4828.jpeg
