Look for one that has an adjustable torso fit and you can get different size hip belts. Hard to narrow down more than that without your budget. Do you want it to be capable of hauling meat?

The AKEK Alpha 3200 has VERY adjustable belt system and adjustable torso settings. I had a 12 yr old the other day get one. They come with lifetime warranties so why waste money on something you know you'll only use for a few yrs? Here is a link:

My son(11) has used a Gregory adjustable pack for backpacking with scouts, until he slows down growing he can use when hiking in(we are in the east and can go in 1+mile), when he turns 12 for next season im hoping to do a overnight camp/hunt in one of the boarding states

Western Edge Gear packs are built specifically for kids and small adults. They're designed to grow with a kid, and they are stout enough to outlast several kids' worth of outdoor experiences.

PM, email, or call if you want to discuss.

Those Western Edge packs look awesome.

If you actually have your kid backpacking and possibly packing meat out, I can’t imagine there is a much better pack.

Glad I saw those.

If you aren’t having your kid carry much, and if he is large enough to fit an adult small, I’m thinking a regular backpacking type pack would work as well.

Like these:

Most “backpacking” oriented packs are aimed at the light hiking crowd that considers 30 pounds a super heavy base weight. And even the burlier ones are maybe designed for around 50ish. But if your kid can fit those, and if you just have them carry maybe their sleeping bag/system, clothes, and a few other things, I’d go that direction.

But if he is above average toughness and wants to carry his whole packing list, and willing to pack meat, that’s a kid I’d spend the money on to get one of those Western Edge packs.
