my Model 70 .30-06 Featherweight, topped with a 2x7 Varix II weighs just over 7#, not too shabby with a wood stock

Interesting this thread is still going. I just got a howa alpine mountain rifle in 6.5 creedmore. Hoping this fits the bill well for those high country mule deer.

thanks! I just picked up another Featherweight in .257 Bob putting a straight 6X Leupold on it; I also have a straight 6X for this rifle along with Talley lightweight mounts- this should cover me pretty well for Eastern MT deer/antelope w/ the .257 and with the .06 for elk here

half way considering sending off both bolts for fluting and having the bolt knobs hollowed

I have a Model 7 MS in .257 BOB it's about 15 years old and wears a Nikon Monarch 3-9 X on top. I think it was listed as 61/2 #'s when I bought it. With the sights off and the scope on I would guess just a touch over 7#'s. These were the first 7's with 20" barrels.

I'm a super fan of Sako Finnlights. I've had mine on a gob of Alaska sheep and mtn goat hunts as well as elk in the lower 48. As soon as I picked it up I saw the quality....made in Finland I believe? It is relatively light. I have a 300 WSM and it kicks no harder than my 270. Back when I was looking Tikka would have been my 2nd pick but it didn't seem near as good of quality. The only thing I don't like about my Sako is the 300 shell is super short and blocky...and is pretty tough getting a 2nd round in. They may have fixed this by now? The Sako fits me like a glove and the 300 WSM groups shots very well!

Diddo Jims, except for the feeding issue, which I do not have in my 75. Yours a 75 or 85? I never found anything off the shelf that compared to the obvious quality of the Sako.

Sako 85 Finnlight +1, Got it in 300 win mag, on the pricier side, but lightweight and shoots awesome!

I have a winny lightweight too and dropped it into a McMillian lightweight composite stock, that will get you under 7.

^ Nice!

I've definitely been tossing that idea around; neat they have an actual Featherweight option :). was thinking maybe in brown with speckles- get it looking half way close to a wood stock

I am admittedly not a "gun guy" at all and look at rifles simply as a tool to kill things. I've used a couple different Kimber's over the past couple years and been very happy. Mountain Ascent, Montana and Hunter are all lightweight, fantastic for hunting big game in the west.

Remington Model 7 308. $500. HS Precision stock $250. Leupold 3-9 used $150.

Plenty of things I could do to take 8 oz off, but it's good enough.

Nice rifle Coop. Is that a recent purchase? I'm looking for a Model Seven in .308 right now and no one seems to be able to get one. I'll probably put mine in a green bell and Carlson stock after I get the barreled action cerakoted gray. Will likely put a Leupold 4x in Talley's or DNZ mount. Hoping to be under 7 pounds.

The accuracy is especially encouraging my decision now.

Has anyone tried the Browning Hells Canyon Speed X-bolt. I was looking at picking one up in 300 WSM.

I bought the 308 in 2009. I love it. I plan on putting a trigger on it but it shoots so good already I quit messing with it. There are a lot of SS 7's on GunBroker for 650 range. Usually 20-30 to ship to your ffl
