First off, thank you so much in advance for any input you are willing to provide. I just found out yesterday. I drew a Nevada muzzleloader tag with dates from mid September to early October. I’ve never hunted NV before. At this point, I’m uncertain as to what seven days are best to hunt if I only have seven days.

On one hand, the early part of the season is appealing to me as deer will likely be in their summer pattern and theoretically easier to pattern and locate with them being in bachelor groups. I would think this is especially true if I’m able to scout before the start of the season. The later season dates appeal to me though as I would expect by that point, they are going to be moving down into more transitional zone that may be easier to hunt. I question whether they would be more difficult to locate and more solitary in October as they are in other states I hunt like MT, CO, and WY.

This would be my first muzzleloader hunt with early season dates. I’m planning to backpack in and get away from roads. Thanks and please feel free to redirect me if this has been answered here previously in a post that I could find.

Congrats on the tag. In general they’re not moving down any lower by early October. You can PM me if you want to be more specific, but early October they will be at the top of the range.

My friend got a muzzleloader deer tag last year and I went with him. It was my first time hunting Nevada. We got there late in the evening of September 18th and setup camp then went and glassed a knob. We hunted until the morning of September 22nd before I had to pack up and go home. He decided to pack up and call it as well since the action had been slim though he had a chance at a smaller 3x4.

I would say use your days towards the end of season.

I will say I saw one of the biggest bull elk I've ever seen. I had a good time even not notching his tag.
