Best midsize Pickup?

Luckily the ranger in its current form is well tested in Australia where it remained after our last gen ranger was discontinued in America. So it's a new to us truck and not a new truck per se. They're very popular for overlanding the outback which is very inhospitable to vehicles and about ad dusty as possible.

This is very true, actually one of the very reasons I choose the Ranger. We work heavily with fellow survival instructors and schools in AUS,NZ, SA and Central/South America.

I’ve actually started building my new truck out like their overlanders instead of the typical direction many of the US built overland rigs tend to go in. After speaking to so many of them, I was convinced the Ranger and Ford is quite a solid brand Internationally. They seem to have really proven their worth and reliability in some extremely demanding areas of the globe. Seems the Ranger is being used heavily for government,public service and natural parks in AUS.

A few have even mentioned the Chevy Colorado is pretty popular as well. Sure love the Nissan Navara and Isuzu PU but unfortunately can’t get those models,nor any of these in the diesel option. That’s the part that sucks, wish we could get any of these in something other than just a gas option. I think Chevy is also done with the baby duramax this year as well.

With it being 2022, there are positions besides missionary that take less space to execute

Gen 2-2.5 Tundra. Gas pig, but great truck, otherwise the new Ranger looks pretty nice. Tacoma's will get you into basically anywhere off-road, but they are cramped and underpowered. I've driven over the 250k mile mark on multiple Toyotas and Lexus vehicles, and older ones are as rock solid as the reputation says. Newer ones, I don't have much experience with. Gen 1 Tundra is a beast if you can find a clean one with lower miles, and fits the mid-size niche nicely.

Looking at trading my F150 in and going back to a midsize truck. Not doing a Tacoma, unfortunately I think their limelight is fading and hated the little time I owned a 2016 Tacoma, completely disappointing. I had just as many issues with it as I did my work truck.

Any suggestions on midsize?

Main use will be zipping up and down logging and forestry roads to check cameras, hunt,fish, etc..

Been hearing pretty darn good things on the Ranger, seems quite a few I have spoke to seem to be happy with their Colorados/Canyons as well.

It looks like the 2023 Chevy Colorado is going to be pretty awesome. Up to 430lbs of torque in the ZR2.

New 23 Colorado's look sweet. Not sure I trust them to last though. I'd prob wait to see if a new Tacoma comes out in 24. It's badly in need of a refresh

Is the power train on the US ranger the same one they use overseas that you're referring to?

I went from a Silverado to a Ranger in 2019. I am very happy with it. Super cab with a 6' bed, FX4 off road package. I did a front level kit and upsized the tires one size. It should definitely be on you short list. The FX4 package gets you the electronic locking rear differential and a bunch of other stuff.

Can’t trust any trucks “to last” these days. ‘Yodas are not what they used to be. It’s been overdue for a refresh since it’s second year out in this Gen.
Whatever you buy, get the factory backed warranty to 125k or 150k and call it good.
I’m not a Chevy fan boy, but with power, payload and off road capability like that- it’s hard to go wrong.

I have a 2017 Frontier that I got a couple years ago and I love it. Was going to go with a Tacoma, but the price difference on a ‘comparable’ truck was ridiculous.

The Frontiers get knocked a bit due to being somewhat bare bones when it comes to features, but that’s one of the things I like about it. Trucks nowadays come with way too many bells and whistles that I really don’t want.

Don’t be scared of that 4 banger GM is putting or going to be putting in their midsize trucks. I have one in a Silverado and it’s more than capable for my needs, plus I get 25mpg on the highway and 21 around town.

I have a '13 Tacoma and at 110,000 miles it's treated me well. I rarely pull anything and it's nice to have in town where parking spaces are small. I hear a lot about people having trouble with the newer Tacomas. Seems Yota done effed up.

Nowadays, the difference between a souped up compact and a mild 1/2 ton are minimal. they don't make the ultra compact trucks like they used to about 20 years ago. My 2WD Frontier was a great little truck. It was basically a car with a bed on the back.

For those with the ranger how do you like that 10 speed transmission? It’s probably not identical but my work van has one it seems to be too much for in town driving. Acts like a bunch of half step shifts through the first four gears when accelerating normally.

I bought a 2018 Tacoma in 2018 and have loved it other than really bad gas mileage, cab noise, and the short bed. I ordered a 2022 GMC Canyon AT4 Nov 9th 2021 with a long bed. It was built 5/12/22, and I'm still waiting on it. I'm told this month should be the lucky month. I'm excited to have a quieter ride, the long bed, Apple car play, and better gas mileage. My cap for it came in this week as well and I'm excited for it too as I got this one with the windoors.

Who’s description are you using? The industry seems to call Tacoma, ranger, Colorado, frontier midsize, full size starts at half ton… they don’t call any compact that I have ever seen
