Best Lumbar/Fanny Pack

Preface...I don't need anything for hauling meat at this time. Thinking about switching to a lumbar pack with shoulder straps that can be used to carry a kill kit, water, maybe an optic. There would only be used for day trips to and from the cabin, so I don't really need to haul that much gear. Like the king of the mountain type set up but don't want to go all in for $500 and not use it.

Any recommendations for something like that? Or opinions on why that's a bad idea?

Badlands monsters are awesome. Not sure if they discontinued them or not because they aren’t on their website anymore but you can get them on eBay.

Kifaru Day Stalker, Scout - if you can find them no longer made. Check the classifieds here, they show up on occasion,
As mentioned, the Kuiu and badlands look good.
Mountainsmith makes a pretty good lumbar pack, the "day" model, around 800 CI. Add some strappettes for shoulder carry. I have one myself.

If you can find a long discontinued Easton Outfitters Hinsch XT 700 it is an excellent aluminum framed lumbar pack with shoulder harness.

I would give a really hard look at the new mountain smith EVO waist packs. They have the same DNA as kifaru (Patrick Smith) and my older mountain smith lumbar packs were great.
