With good shot placement what do think is your effective range on game with it? Deer and elk...
Ace, I kept trying to reply to your PM, but my Windows kept crashing when opening them? So, I'll answer here...
I found a Rem700 SPS in 300WSM for the donor action. Complete truing job by my 'smith, action, boltface, lugs, threads, etc.
PT&g 6.5 GAP 4s 'tight neck' .2962" reamer
Barrel is a Bartlein 1:8.5" twist, custom contoured to about a #4, with a Vias Micro brake
Barrel and bolt were fluted by Kampfeld Customs to shave weight, and all metal finished in flat black Cerakote
Stock is a B&C Ti, which turned out to be a warped POS, direct from Stocky's. I made it work via Dremel and a good Marine Tex bedding job to get it up & shootin' before deer season ended.
Bottom metal is the factory crap BDL pot metal and follower, but used a Wyatt's extended mag box to fit & feed 2.910" rounds easily
Talley 30mm lows, now holding a Premier Hunter 3-15x50, Gen II mildot
I loaded some 140s in haste, to try to get a deer kilt with this rig, before end of season. Found a good shootin' load quickly, proved it to 440 on steel and figured to keep shots to <500 on game. Wound up whackin' a deer @ 330, and the JLK folded it up with a high shoulder shot.
With what little I've shot it, I'm pleased as heck with the cartridge!
I'm using Norma 300WSM brass and Redding Type S bushing FL dies:
step down to 7mm first, then turn necks down to ~.0145, cutting slightly into the shoulder with K&M tool.
Chamfer & final step down using .291 Ti bushing
Then load & shoot!
Due to the slight radius on the Redding bushings, these initial prepped brass will chamber with a slight 'crush fit'. But subsequent reloads chamber just fine.
Have a Micky A3 and Surgeon DBM that this barreled action will be dropping into, as I'm still not happy with the factory warpage of that B&C stock.
Brass prep aside, I'm diggin' this cartridge. And 3100fps with a 140JLK is a 'soft cruise', theres another couple hundred fps to be found for the barrel torchers in the crowd...
